IT’S a meeting which is only in its second year, but it’s already proving massively popular among primary schools throughout the county.
Over 500 pupils from 41 schools spread throughout Kerry took part in the Allianz-sponsored Cumann na mBunscol Chiarraí Cross Country competition on Wednesday at Caherslee GAA grounds.
“The benefits to the wellbeing and health of the pupils who prepared for and took part in this competition cannot be underestimated,” said Margaret Kissane Principal of Coolard NS, one of the main organisers of the event.
“Cumann na mBunscol Chiarraí are very grateful to Coiste Chiarraí for the use of their facilities to hold this event which is going from strength to strength.”

Tralee schools were to the fore in most of the categories with Gaelscoil Mhic Easmainn winning the Best Overall Team of the championships award, Spa NS did fantastically well winning best team in two out of four races, while Scoil Eoin Balloonagh had one team first.
Rachel de Barra of Gaelscoil Mhic Easmainn was also first in the Girls 5th/6th Class 1500m. See all the results below…
