PRESENTATION Secondary School Tralee students dug deep for a great cause this month which will ensure children get what they want from Santa this year.

They helped out the St Vincent de Paul/Toys Upstairs Toymaster Christmas Toy Appeal. On Friday, December 4 the students had a bucket collection where they raised €1,087 in the school.

Teacher Margaret Barry explained how it came about. “As part of our CSPE (Civics Social Political Education) class, we decided to do something meaningful considering the context of COVID-19 and the impact it has had in our town this year.

“We were very conscious of families in need and the students here wanted to help other young people in the town. In our CSPE class we learn about citizenship and this was an opportunity to demonstrate citizenship in action,” she said.

Treasa Walsh, on behalf of SVP Tralee, thanked the students and staff for their efforts. “In making this donation they are also becoming more aware of the work we do at St Vincent de Paul. The donation allows us to buy the toys at Toys Upstairs for the children and we’re so grateful.”

The Toy appeal is ongoing, right up to Christmas Eve so call into Toys Upstairs Toymaster on Rock Street (above Kellihers Hardware) for more or call into the St Vincent de Paul shops in Friary lane and Castle Street. They also accept donations by phone 0667128021.
