TWO students at Presentation Secondary School, Tralee enjoyed a special day in Dublin last Wednesday.
Ciara Murphy, a Transition Year student and her sister Saoirse, a second year student at the school were selected to present their BT Young Scientist project at an Oireachtas meeting in Leinster House.
With over 2,500 entries to the BT Young Scientist 2024 competition, the girls were delighted to receive such a fantastic opportunity.

Their project was one of only three projects selected to present at the Oireachtas meeting. Also selected was Seán O’Sullivan, overall winner of the BTYS 2024 and Phillipa McIntosh, Individual Runner up 2024.
The girls, who recently received the award of overall BTYS Group Runner up 2024, eloquently presented their project ACT, an immediate, accessible technological aid to assist in medical emergencies, supported by a comprehensive repository of medical information to members of the Oireachtas and Seanad on the day.
They discussed their experience of the BTYS competition, the development of their App ACT and future development plans for their project. The presentation was followed by a Q&A session with the many TDs and Senators present for the occasion.
Following their presentation, the girls were invited to enjoy lunch in Leinster house with their parents, sister Laoise, Ms. Mairéad Finucane, Principal at Presentation Secondary School, Tralee and Ms. Helena Madigan, Teacher.
This was followed by a tour of government buildings with Mr. Denis Naughten, Teachta Dála and compere at the event. The girls discussed their project with many Senators and TDs on the day including Minister Norma Foley, Minister for Education.
