The county champions went down to Abbeydorney in a keenly contested game.

Both teams were short a few regulars but perhaps Ballyduff more so than Abbeydorney.

Ballyduff were ahead 1-1 to 0-2 when Padraig Boyle rattled the net for Ballyduff — he had opened the scoring with a point and Nigel Roche had two pointed frees.

The Ballyduff lead lasted about a minute when James O’Connor goaled for Abbeydorney. Nigel Roche pointed a 65 and he swapped points with Padraigh Adam Maunsell and Steve O’Sullivan made it Abbeydorney 1.06 Ballyduff 1.03.

Two minutes from the end PJ Keane blasted past PJ Gorman to the net, Padraigh Boyle replied with a free only for Nigel to stick a free in the back of the net.

Aiden Boyle had the last score of the first half, 3-6 to Abbeydorney, Ballyduff 1-6.

James O’Connor showed his county class with a point at the resumption and Padraig Boyle stole a goal back for Ballyduff.

Daragh Goulding and Jack both pointed to bring the margin to one score 2-8 to 3-8.

Ballyduff sqandered quite a few chances, especially a goal chance from Padraig Boyle. Abbeydorney had three points from Nigel Roche and a beauty from an acute angle from Ronan Donovan before the end.

He was denied another point when the referee overruled the umpire at the death.
