TOURISM is worth €410m to Killarney annually according to a report to be launched this morning.

Commissioned by Killarney Chamber of Commerce, the report shows the incredible importance of the industry to Ireland’s premier tourist town.

It also shows 3,000 people are directly employed in the industry in Killarney and 1.1 million people visit annually. The Chamber is hoping to increase this number to 1.4m by 2025.

However, the road network to the county is a problem especially bottlenecks in Adare and Macroom which is putting off potential visitors to Killarney.

Another problem to tackle is seasonality with occupancy rates dropping to a low of 20% cent in December as opposed to the national average of 60% for that time of year.

The report is to be officially launched in Killarney this morning by Minister of State at the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport, Deputy Brendan Griffin.
