THE Rose of Tralee International Festival is in the running for the top award at the inaugural Irish Tourism Industry Awards tonight.

Celebrating 56 years this year, the Rose of Tralee is a finalist in the Best Festival/Event Experience Category which features six other festivals including Dublin’s St Patrick’s Day Festival in Dublin.

The Awards give recognition to people, companies and organisations that make significant contributions to developing, marketing, selling and delivering improved visitor experiences in Ireland and to increasing the number of visitors from overseas.

Kerry County Council, a major sponsor of the Rose of Tralee International Festival, is a finalist in the category for Best Local Authority Tourism Innovation.

The all-action Killarney Adventure Race is shortlisted in the Best Adventure Experience category while the Killarney Convention Bureau is nominated in two categories – the Best Business Tourism Innovation category for organising the 2014 Adventure Travel World Summit and for the CreateSmarter gathering.

Meanwhile, also in Dublin tonight, the 2014 Rose of Tralee Maria Walsh is a finalist in the VIP Style Awards.
