No really! We found six things…It’s a bit quiet around this time of the year, but there is still some events you can head to around the place this weekend…

Saturday

1. Keep on running…

Double the normal amount of people showed up for the weekly Park Run last Saturday and organisers are hopeful they’ll keep it up.

Being associated with RTE’s Operation Transformation helped, but no doubt some will have been bitten by the bug. The 5k run/walk begins at 9.30am and if you want to register for free, click here

2. Dropping the ball…

The Great Golf Ball Release Tralee at 12 noon will see Dee Lyons drop/roll numbered golf balls on to the practice greens at Tralee Golf Club and the ball that lands closest to the pin wins.

It’s all in aid of Special Olympics Ireland. Deirdre is heading off as a volunteer for the Special Olympics games in Austria in March.

• First prize – choice between the round of golf for 4 people at Tralee golf club OR €500 in all 4 one vouchers
• Second prize – €250 in all 4 one vouchers
• Third prize – €100 in all 4 one vouchers

If anyone would like to buy a ball they are €10 each and you can either PM Dee Lyons on Facebook by clicking here or donate at this link. https://give.everydayhero.com/ie/dee-lyons-fundraising#/ You can check out the FB page by clicking here

3. Game night for the Warriors…

It’s set to be another thrilling night at Tralee Sports and Leisure Centre, as Garveys Tralee Warriors rake to the court for another home game.

This time they take on KUBS BC with tip off at 8pm. As usual a great nights entertainment is in store with Botty O’Callaghan as MC, Trophy World will be supplying the players with a keepsake to throw to the kids, face painting and the Garveys half time half court challenge with €200 up for grabs! All this and much, much more.

Oh yeah, there’s a game of basketball too. Garvey’s Warriors have had just one home defeat this season and enjoyed a great victory away in Belfast last week, so let’s hope the form holds. Adults €8, U16s €5 and U4s are free.

Sunday

4. One for the youngsters…

If the Park Run 5k is too much for younger participants, then Sunday morning’s 2k is much more manageable and fun.

It begins at 9.30am and all are welcome for a fun morning.

5. Support the hurlers…

Kerry hurlers suffered a defeat to Cork in their opening match in the Munster Senior Hurling league but they’ll be hoping home advantage will count as they face the tough challenge of Clare this Sunday.

The game throws in at 2pm in Austin Stack Park so get down and support the lads.

6. Sunday night out? Elementary my dear…

If you want to solve the problem of what to do on Sunday night, then diehard fans of top crime series Sherlock can enjoy the Series Four finale on the big screen in Tralee Omniplex.

While it’s being shown on BBC at the same time (8.45pm), it’s promised there’ll be extra scenes for the cinemagoers.
