THE annual Austin Stacks Lee Strand Football tournament, now in it’s 30th year, will take place at Austin Stacks GAA grounds, Connolly Park,  on Saturday and Sunday September 12/13.

This prestigious under 13 football tournament was launched at Connolly Park on Thursday and present for the occasion were Jerry Dwyer, Production Manager of Lee Strand Co-Operative Creamery Ltd. (sponsors of competition); Austin Stacks organisers/officials Denis O’Connor, Aidan O’Connor (Club Chairman), Liam Lynch (Club Vice-Chairman), Tim McMahon (Club Juvenile Chairman), Stephen Stack and the senior football team; Austin Stacks Under 10 footballers.

Taking part in this year’s competition are:
Kerry teams – An Ghaeltacht, John Mitchels, Austin Stacks, Churchill, Killarney Legion, Na Gaeil, Dingle.
Dublin teams – Ballyboden/St. Endas, Cuala, Clontarf. Other teams – Salthill/Knocknacarra (Galway), Ennistymon (Clare), Athlone (Westmeath), Naas (Kildare), Na Piarsaigh and Nemo Rangers (Cork).

Last year’s winners of the Lee Strand Cup were Salthill/Knocknacarra who beat the hosts, Austin Stacks. The Billy Breen Memorial Shield was won by Ennistymon who got the better of Na Gaeil while the Abie Allen Plate Final was won by Killarney Legion who defeated Nemo Rangers.
