Juveniles

U6: We had a fun session this morning with a few new evasion drills. It’s clear to see lots of boys & girls have been practicing their skills. With just 12 kids today we had a 6 aside match, particularly Dylan, AJ, James really impressed the coaches with great kicking & passing skill. The stand out player today was Noah Flynn who used all the space of the pitch to his advantage & showed how he had practiced kicking off both feet.
Hope you see you all back into routine over the next few weeks

U8: The scenes in Croke Park last Sunday after Limerick bridged a 45 year gap to win the All Ireland Hurling final were great to see. When players are asked after major championship wins what it feels like most of them refer to how they dreamed of wins like this when they were practising in their back garden as young kids of six or seven.

In the Academy we are always emphasising the value of our young players putting in some practice at home every day. At the under 8 level the players are developing the basic skills of catching, hand passing, kicking the ball from the hands and the pick-up.

Even with limited space at home our young players can throw a ball in the air and catch it, put a ball on the ground and practice the pick-up or hand pass the ball against a wall. It’s as much about getting comfortable handling the ball as it is practising the basic skills.

The weekly sessions help show our players what to do and how to do it however the daily practice at home will help our players to become more competent with the basic skills and their confidence in playing the game will grow accordingly.

One young player who showed good skill and commitment at last week’s academy session was Blake Bowler and he was deservedly our player of the week. Well done to Blake.

U10: The academy for our U10’s continued last Sunday morning and thanks to all who attended. It is great to see them having fun whilst learning their skills. It is very important that parents bring their kids to training to learn their skills and also encourage them to practice at home.

U14 Girls: Our excellent girls played out a great match last Thursday evening in Lispole, losing by a small margin against a much bigger and older Corca Dhuibhne B side.

We got off to a very worrying start with the home side scoring 2-01 in the opening minutes. However as this team have showed many times before, they are made of grit and determination and with great passing and scoring had drawn level at half time.

We once again took time to get settled in the second half. The opposition scored 1-02 before our fighting spirit re-emerged and our girls got some excellent scores. Unfortunately, time ran out on our comeback but this was an outstanding display of heart, determination and great skill. Full time scores: Corca Dhuibhne B 5-05 St Pats 3-07

Team and scorers: Emily Roche, Orlaith Murphy, Aoibhin Corridan, Ailbhe Daly, Grace O’Brien, Caoimhe O’ Sullivan, Rachel Mulgrew, Keelin Enright (1-01), Lisa Rowan (0-01), Mia O’Brien, Caoimhe Dairo (1-05), Siobhan O’ Sullivan,Faye O’Neill (1-00), Emma Healy, Sinead Murphy

Our next game will be at home to Kerins O’Rahillys B the week after with day and date to be decided.

Minors

Our minors were back to winning ways when they took on Keel last Monday evening in Round 3 of the Central Region Minor Competition in Blennerville.

It was a great game of football with both teams giving it their all. St Pats stormed out of the blocks very early in the first half and were up by a goal and 2 points but relaxed which gave Keel the confidence to go for their points as the first half ended 1-05 to Keel’s 8 points.

The second half saw our boys up the tempo and took the game to their opponents. Every player stuck to their task and their hard work paid off as they ran out comfortable winners on a score line of St Pats 3-12 Keel 1-12

Team: Nathan Moriarty, Paddy Murphy, Ian McCarthy, Niall McCarthy, Bradley Lynch (1-0), Kieran O’Donoghue (0-1), Martin Savage (0-1), Cathal Fitzgibbon, Patrick Dowling (1-2), Darragh Moriarty, Fergal O’Brien (1-7), Nathan Rowan (0-1), Damien Quirke, James Friel.

Sub: Cormac Lynch for Bradley Lynch

Seniors

Waterville 2-15 St Pats 1-18

St Pats and Waterville shared the points in their last match of Division 3 of the County League, played in Waterville last Sunday afternoon. It was a match that marked the senior team debuts for Jack Lynch and 2 of our minor players, Ian McCarthy and Fergal O’Brien with the latter going on to score 3 very good points.

St Pats started the match very well with Paul McMahon pointing as early as the first minute. Our lead was doubled after Eoin Greaney beat his marker to point from close range. Veteran, Liam Poff added the third on 4 minutes from a solo run, and Eoin Greaney’s long range effort from 45 metres enusured we were 4 points up after 5minutes played. Waterville got on the score board after 7 minutes but St Pats were dominating in all areas which translated into 3 more scores to Waterville’s solitary point. However, they upped their game mid-way into the half and put up some fine scores including the last 5 points of the half as the half time scores were 8 points apiece.

Waterville scored from a free to edge ahead very early in the second half but seconds later, substitute Fergal O’Brien scored his first senior team point following a clever pass from Eoin Greaney to draw the sides level once more. Waterville had the green flag waved on the third minute when they breached our defence from a high ball that we failed to clear and added another one 8 minutes later only for St Pats to retaliate with a well worked goal finished by Paul McMahon as the away side lead by 3 points half way into the match. David O’Callaghan reduced the deficit when he pointed from a free, which was quickly followed by points from Fergal O’Brien and Luke Mulligan who both pointed from play. Waterville added to their tally with a couple of frees but St Pats finished the game strongly with points from Brendan Poff and Eoin Greaney as the match ended on a score line of Waterville 2-15 St Pats 1-18.

Team: John Fitzgerald, Tommy O’Connor, Cillian O’Riordan, Brian Murphy, Liam Poff (0-01), Kieran Dwyer, Luke Mulligan (0-01), Liam O’Sullivan, Paul McMahon (1-01), Paudi Bailey, David O’Callaghan (0-04, 1f), Brendan Poff (0-02), Jack Lynch, Eoin Greaney (0-06, 2f), Tommy Lynch

Subs: Fergal O’Brien (0-03) for Jack Lynch, Ian McCarthy for Paudi Bailey, Eoin Sayers for Brian Murphy, Joe Costello for Liam Poff.

The result of the match had no bearing on our position in the league but it was great to see the fighting spirit of the team, who were determined to finish the year on a good note and also the blooding of 2 of our minors, who both acquitted themselves very well showing that the future is bright for St Pats.

The club will like to thank Joe and his management team for their hard work and commitment throughout the year.
