Juvenile Academy

U6: We had a fun session & plenty of exercise for all in U6 training this morning. The boys and girls are making friends & learning how to move well & get stronger. We practiced ball handling and kicking skills today & had a lot of fun with evasion games. Very well done to our new comers with their fast feet and agility! Special mention to Ankit for his skill , speed and kicking skills this morning.
See you all next week…. gooo St Pats!

U8: A total of 18 Under 8 boys and girls attended training last Sunday in Cumann Iosaef along with coaches Michael, Jason, Roger and Joe. We started with some fun games to warm up and had a fun box to box game which everyone enjoyed. Then each coach took a group of players and worked on individual skills like kicking, hand passing, catching and some work on agility. We then finished with a fun short obstacle race which was won by the rabbits by a nose!!

It’s important that all boys and girls (And not forgetting mums and dads) spend time practising during the week in order to get better. One girl who clearly has been practising a lot since she joined when we started three weeks ago was Erika Balode and she deservedly got player of the week. Training resumes next Sunday in Cumann Iosaef at 10am for all Under 8’s so looking forward to seeing you all there.

U10: Another great session was enjoyed by this young group of emerging stars, with a lot of fun and games had during the hour. It is great and encouraging to see all the kids improving weekly. Training continues next Sunday at Cumann Iosaef Hall at 11am.

U12: St. Pats under 12’s were training again last Sunday. Everyone put in a great effort during the session especially Killian O’Mahony, Darragh Murphy, Michael Enright and Luke Passway. It’s important ye all continue to attend training. Next session is Sunday 10th of February at 11am to 12pm again indoors in Cumann Iosaef so keep practicing yer skills at home during the week. Naomh Pádraig Abú!!

U14 Boys: Our U14 boys commenced training for the 2019 season last Wednesday evening on our astro pitch. There were 15 boys in attendance eager to show their coaches that they hadn’t lost their skills during the break and all had fun despite the chilly weather. Training is every Monday and Wednesday at 7pm and we as a vibrant, progressing club welcome all children from the Tralee town area to come join us.

Minors

Tralee Town Board Minor League Division Two:

St Pats 1-15
Churchill 2-10

Our minor team got off to a winning start last Sunday with a well-earned two point win over Churchill in the Tralee Town Board Minor League.

Played in cold but perfect underfoot conditions in Churchill, the home side started the brighter and built up a two point lead after as many minutes. Once St Pats settled, they dominated the exchanges for the next twenty minutes, playing with the aid of a stiff wind.

Our backs fought hard with a notable performance at corner back from Darragh O’Connor after a long layoff from playing. He was ably assisted by Cathal Fitzgibbon and Martin Savage who turned over a number of Churchill attacks.

Patrick Dowling and captain Ali Gardezi were dictating the play at midfield and up front, Bradley Lynch and Fergal O’Brien were causing the home side a lot of problems. Fergal and Patrick were our scorers in chief in the first half as we led 7 points to 2 after the 20th minute.

However, two consecutive lapses of concentration cost us dearly as Churchill scored two goals to put them in front, against the run of play.

They added a further point to stretch their lead to two points but we rallied again and points from Darragh Moriarty and Fergal saw us draw back level at the short whistle.

We won the throw in from the restart and Fergal pointed to put us back in the lead. Playing into the wind in the second half, we added a further score from a Dowling free after good work by Nathan Rowan and Tomás O’Sullivan.

Further points were added by O’Brien and we were very unlucky with two goal chances just after. Danny Greaney was through one on one with the goalkeeper and his shot hit the crossbar. Nathan Moriarty was also unlucky a minute later with his effort which was cleared off the line.

Churchill drew confidence from this and they added three unanswered points to put them back level. However with 3 minutes to go, Ian McCarthy made a strong run from full back and was fouled on the Churchill 21.

A quick thinking O’Brien shot from the resultant free into the net to put St Pats back in front.  Churchill clawed a point back but St Pats held on to the ball in the remaining minutes to hold out for a win.

It was a good performance from all 19 lads and the victory was well deserved. They have been training now for a number of weeks and this stood to them, particularly in the second half. Whilst all players contributed to the win, a 1-9 return from Fergal O’Brien ensured he was the stand out player.

Thanks to Churchill for facilitating the change of venue after last week’s rain and also to referee George O’Donnell. We are scheduled to play Ardfert next Sunday in Ardfert at 3pm in round two of the same competition. The minors will be out every weekend for the next 5-6 weeks between the Town League and County League so there is plenty of football ahead for them.

Team: Gavin Doody, Ciarán O’Donoghue, Ian McCarthy, Darragh O’Connor, Martin Savage, Cathal Fitzgibbon, Brian Teahan, Patrick Dowling (0-5, 2f), Ali Gardezi (C), Bradley Lynch, Fergal O’Brien (1-9, 2f), Tomás O’Sullivan, Tadhg Kerins, Nathan Moriarty & Nathan Rowan. Subs: Darragh Moriarty (0-1) for Tadhg Kerins, Niall McCarthy for Darragh O’Connor (inj), Mikey Doody for Brian Teahan (inj), Danny Greaney for Nathan Moriarty.
