Strictly Come Dancing 2014

All the homework is done. Now its time to play!!!

Our Strictly Come Dancing night takes places this Friday night in Ballyroe Heights Hotel at 8:30pm. The event is a sell-out with over 500 people to attend.

The final dress rehearsal took place in Ballyroe last Sunday evening and it gave a taste for those present of what to expect on the night itself. And boy I can tell there will be twist, turns, thrills and hopefully not too many spills. Looking forward to seeing you all there. There will be a full report on the night in next week’s notes.

Date for the Diary

The Club Senior AGM will take place on Sunday December 14th at 3pm in the clubhouse. It is vital that as many members attend as possible so that you can have your say in how the club goes about its business for 2015.

We have done some fantastic work over the last few years in fundraising by paying off the small debt owed for the construction of the clubrooms and we now will be in a position to break ground early in the New Year to construct the Astro Turf pitch.

A lot of work is involved behind the scenes in running the club so we would love to have more people come on board in 2015 to bring new ideas and impetus to the club.

Please forward nominations for positions on the Executive to Club Secretary Terry Boyle by no later than Thursday December 11th secretary.Stpatricksblennerville.kerry@gaa.ie

Last Person Standing Autumn 2014

Last week saw Week 6 of the St Pats LPS competition. 30 contestants was whittled down to 18 with a good few casualties going out on Swansea’s draw at home and Chelsea being held scoreless at the Stadium of Light.

Week 7, sponsored by Brendan Farmer Motor Repairs, is the first time we have introduced mid-week fixtures. There is a full round of premiership games scheduled to be played on December 2nd & 3rd.

Week 8 is kindly sponsored by Seamus O’Sullivan Master Butchers and these games take place this weekend December 6/7/8th.

Therefore, it may be a busy few days for the remaining entries. The Last Lady Competition is kindly sponsored by Windmill Cabs.

Thank you to all participants for supporting this important fundraising event for our club and a big thanks also to Conor Culloo who is looking after the administration. Please have your Week 8 entries emailed in to stpatslps@gmail.com before9pm this Friday.

Derryquay National School Coin Collection

So many of us have coins lying around the house. How about putting them to good use. The children of Derryquay School will accept your coin of any denomination.

The monies collected will be divided between the Irish Cancer Society and Derryquay School fund. The Irish Cancer Society is the charity chosen by the children themselves.

Coins may be dropped at the school during school hours. Alternatively you may contact any member of the school community to collect it from you.

Blennerville National School

We would like to wish our SNA Denise Shanahan, husband of one of our teachers- Tom O’Connor, and parent Bernie Dillane, the very best of luck in the St. Pat’s Strictly Come Dancing on 5th December in Ballyroe.

Blennerville school is being very well represented! Thanks to the Parent’s Association for all their hard work in the fundraising, and to all the sponsors of prizes, for our Hamper night in Quanes on Saturday 29th November.

Thanks to all at Quanes for being fantastic hosts, as usual. Mike O’Connor was a brilliant and hilarious MC on the night. We also had a successful Cake Sale recently, so many thanks to all who baked, bought and ate the goodies.

On 26th November we had a day with Killarney National Park’s Catherine Daly for a day of Science, all based on Energy experiments, which we thank her sincerely for.

Then on 28th November, the Greenschool committee met with Micheál Ó Coileáin of Kerry County Council for our Greenschool Energy flag inspection.

The committee were reluctant to let Micheál go, sharing with him everything they knew on the energy theme, and Miss Brassil was extremely proud of all the children, who spoke with great confidence.

On 1st December, our school was very excited to have the ‘turning of the sod’ ceremony, which was well represented by politicians and principals alike. It was lovely to see past principals Síle Griffin and Mike O’Connor on the new site, as well as many other happy faces. See our web-site www.blennervillens.ie for lots more!

World Sports Team

Last Wednesday in Dublin marked the official launch of World Sports Team, a volunteer-driven non-profit organisation on a mission to provide sportspeople across the world with a supportive network.

This is the brainchild of former St Pats player Eamonn Sayers who has put a tremendous amount of work over the last number of years developing the concept.

Eamonn said: “World Sports Team is the team every sportsperson supports.

We aim to provide those who suffer catastrophic injury playing sport with a willing hand to help them through whatever difficulties they face.

My cousin suffered a catastrophic injury playing sport and from my experiences I realised there has to be a better way of supporting fellow sportspeople.

I do not want any family to have to go through what we went through then. Ireland has given many gifts to the sporting world and we hope this can be another one that benefits people the world over.”

Eamonn is looking for people to join World Sports Team for visting their websitewww.worldsportsteam.org , liking the Facebook page, www.fb.com/WorldSportsTeam or following the team on twitter @WorldSportsTeam, using the hashtag #JointheTeam.
