Kerry were behind by a goal after 20 seconds when Aoife McKearney fired to the net.
Jackie Horgan had three points for Kerry to level matters on three minutes before struck for another goal by Emma Flannigan.

Sarah Murphy had saved another goal attempt on twelve minutes, Kerry added four more points before halftime, to leave the halftime score Dublin 2-07 Kerry 0-07.

Kerry faced an ever increasing wind in the second half and only managed two points, the first of those came on 55 minutes and the second at full time from the stick of Jackie Horgan.

Special mention to the Kerry defence who were tireless in their efforts especially Aoife Behan and Rachel McCarthy. Mention also to Ciara Moloney who pulled off a fantastic save towards the end of the game.

“Camogie is in a good place in the county, we have a number of minors stepping up to senior this year so it’s going well. It’s really caught on in the schools in Tralee which is important and there’s good days ahead,” he said.

REPORT/PHOTOS: Clanmaurice Through To All-Ireland Final

.

Risteárd Ó Fuaráin on the Kerry club’s win in the semifinal on Sunday…

Clanmaurice 0-11

St Brenda’s 0-3

Rachel McCarthy and Áine O’Connor of Clanmaurice in action.

Following Kerry’s All-Ireland victory in September, Clanmaurice will be hoping to repeat the feat as they face Raharney of Westmeath in the All-Ireland Junior Club Camogie Final on Sunday, 24 November.

Clanmaurice overcame the challenge of St. Brenda’s, Ballymacnab of Armagh in their semi-final clash at St. Rynagh’s GAA Club, Offaly yesterday while their final opponents defeated St. Dominic’s of Roscommon.

On a cold day for camogie, Clanmaurice played against the wind in the first half and had gone into a 0-5 to 0-2 lead by the 10 minute mark.

Continued below…

.

However, the sides were level at 3 points each 8 minutes later. Clanmaurice were back in the lead in the 20th minute and they stretched that lead to two points at the 25th minute and that left the halftime score, Clanmaurice 0-5 St. Brenda’s, Ballymacnab 0-3.

Patrice Diggin converted 4 frees and scored 1 from play in the first half. Clanmaurice had trailed at halftime in the Munster Final against St. Joseph’s, Doora-Barefield of Clare but had put in a massive second half performance and yesterday proved to be no different.

Olivia Dineen in action.

By the 38th minute Clanmaurice had gone into a 0-8 to 0-3 lead and this had stretched to 0-10 to 0-3 at the 45 minute mark.

There was no way back for St. Brenda’s, Ballymacnab and Clanmaurice booked their final berth on a scoreline of 0-11 to 0-3.

St. Brenda’s had battled all the way but Clanmaurice had too many aces in their pack and the experienced garnered from previous club and intercounty campaigns propelled them to victory.

They will now prepare for a final meeting with Raharney and all in Kerry Camogie wish both Team and Management the very best of luck.

Patrice Diggin, Pete Young and Michelle Costello celebrate the win.

TEACHER Olivia Dineen had some special guests at Mercy Mounthawk on Friday, when her teammates from the All-Ireland Junior winning Kerry Camogie team paid a visit.

The first year students gathered in the Centenary Hall to welcome the ladies as well as members of the Kerry Under 14 side who also won an All-Ireland title on the same weekend.

Ms Dineen introduced her teammates to those assembled and said it was a privilege to stand before the students as champions. She said they heard about the Under 14s success while on the bus up to Dublin on the Saturday and it inspired them further in their bid for success the following day.

Ms Dineen described the emotions of that Sunday to the students.

“Sunday was like a dream come true for all of us. The adult team started in Kerry in 2011 so it as a really long road with plenty of bends and bumps along the way. Our aim at the start of this year was we wanted to get up those steps. It was a total outpouring of emotion and I think between us all we cried buckets with relief and happiness.”

“If there’s anything to take from this, it’s if you have a goal, keep at it. You’re going to have obstacles, but with the support of everyone around you, like we had, you’ll get around it and you’ll find a way of getting to your goal,” she added.

Also attending on the day were team manager Ian Brick and Kerry Camogie Chairperson Ger McCarthy. The ladies stuck around for a while to pose for photos with the students. Scroll down for photos…

REPORT: A Proud Day For Kerry Camogie

.

Kerry Camogie PRO, Risteárd Ó Fuaráin, with his report on yesterday’s historic win…

Kerry 0-11

Limerick 0-8

Kerry Camogie team watches captain Niamh Leen lift the cup.

Kerry faced Limerick in the Premier Junior decider at Croke Park on Sunday hoping to banish the disappointment of their 2018 loss.

On a perfect day for camogie, Patrice Diggin launched the first Kerry attack after 25 seconds but her shot was dealt with by Limerick goalkeeper Leah O’Carroll.

In the 2nd minute Limerick created a goalscoring opportunity when Michelle Curtin won a ball but her handpass to Ella Whelan who was in a great position was blocked by Elaine Ryall.

Seconds later Sara Murphy hooked Ella Whelan as she attempted to raise a white flag. Kerry got off the mark in the 5th minute when Bríd Horan scored a beautiful point.

.

Limerick drew level in the 7th minute when Rebecca Noonan converted a peach of a free from the Cusack Stand side of the pitch.

Seconds later Michelle Curtin of Limerick went on a run but her shot went narrowly wide. In the 10th minute Jackie Horgan was fouled and Patrice Diggin converted the free.

Great work by Templeglantine’s Noelle Curtin was rewarded with a fine point in the 12th minute. In the 14th minute Julianne O’Keeffe struck a beautiful ball to put Kerry back in front.

Patrice Diggin scored from play in the 15th minute and followed this with a point from a free in the 17th.

The same player found Jackie Horgan in the 21st minute and she put Kerry into a four-point lead, 0-6 to 0-2. Rebecca Noonan converted another free in the 23rd minute.

A quick free to Michelle Curtin of Limerick in the 27th minute saw her split the posts and the final point of the half was scored by Rebecca Noonan in the 4th minute of injury time to leave the halftime score at Kerry 0-6 Limerick 0-5. Kerry made two halftime substitutions.

Ann-Marie Leen replaced Jessica Fitzell and Clodagh Walsh replaced Bríd Horan. It did not take Clodagh Walsh long to make her mark as she scored a point within seconds.

A lovely strike by Rachel McCarthy in the 37th minute was followed by another Rebecca Noonan converted free in the 38th.

Quick thinking by Patrice Diggin in the 43rd minute saw her direct a quick free to Sara Murphy and she raised another white flag to put Kerry three ahead. A Patrice free in the 45th minute was cancelled out by a Rebecca Noonan free a minute later.

Limerick substitute Shauna D’Arcy got her name on the scoreboard in the 48th minute. Kerry made their third substitution as Alanna Maunsell replaced Julianne O’Keeffe.

Patrice Diggin added another pointed free to her tally in the 54th minute. Limerick tried hard to get an equalising goal but the Kerry backs stood firm to record a historic victory for Kerry Camogie on a scoreline of 0-11 to 0-8.

Camogie President Kathleen Woods presented the Kathleen Mills Cup to Niamh Leen amid scenes of great celebration. Limerick can be very proud of their efforts as they never gave up and there is no doubt that this bunch of Treaty Women will be a force to be reckoned with in next year’s championship.

However, following last year’s disappointment, it was a proud day for the Kerry Team and Management. Well done to all involved. Comhghairdeachas libh go leir!

Kerry Camogie Team Beats Clare To Book Place In All-Ireland Final

Risteárd Ó Fuaráin on Kerry camogie team’s win over Clare on Saturday…

Kerry 1-13

Clare 0-6

Action from the game.

Kerry made the journey to Cusack Park in Ennis on Saturday to take on the home team in the semi-final of the Liberty Insurance All-Ireland Premier Junior Camogie Championship.

The Kingdom were hoping to get back to the decider following their loss to Dublin in last year’s final.

Kerry really started with intent and executed a strong running game that ensured that the Banner Girls could not get a foothold.

Indeed, it was the 25th minute before Clare registered their first point. Kerry continued in the same vein and led at halftime on a scoreline of 1-9 to 0-3 with the Kerry goal coming from the stick of Julianne O’Keeffe who latched onto the end of a Patrice Diggin free.

Continued below…

.
Action from the game.

The second half was 5 minutes old when there was a moment of magic from Patrice Diggin when she dispossessed her Clare marker and flicked the ball forward before gathering it again and pointing.

Julianne O’Keeffe added to her tally shortly after. Kerry then made two substitutions when Norette Casey replaced Jessica Fitzell and Clodagh Walsh replaced Bríd Horan.

Clare battled hard with Regan Conway doing her utmost to break through the Kerry defence but the Kerry backs stood firm.

Action from the game.

Ruan’s Louise McDonnell wearing No. 11 was another player who tried hard but her attacking potential was curtailed due to her need to shore up the defence as Kerry continued to attack.

Clare tagged on two points from a free and play in the 20thand 22nd minutes but Julianne O’Keeffe replied for Kerry in the 26th.

Kerry continued to run the bench with Eilish Harrington replacing Niamh Leen and Alanna Maunsell replacing Rachel McCarthy.

Clare had a free in the 57th minute but the Kerry defence continued to deny Clare the goal that they so badly needed.

Kerry then made their final substitution when Ann-Marie Leen replaced Laura Collins. Kate O’Gorman completed the Clare scoring in the 60th minute and Patrice Diggin did likewise for Kerry in the 3rd minute of injury time when she converted a free.

Final Score was Kerry 1-13 Clare 0-6. Kerry will face Limerick in the final on 8 September.

Kerry Prove Too Strong For Waterford In Camogie Championship

.

By Risteárd Ó Fuaráin

Kerry 1-16

Waterford 0-1

Patrice Diggin accounted for 0-11 of the Kerry tally

Kerry travelled to Walsh Park in Waterford on Saturday to face the Déise in the All-Ireland Premier Junior Camogie Championship.

The Kingdom had already defeated Waterford in the Munster Championship so travelled to Walsh Park hoping to repeat the feat.

On a perfect day for camogie, Kerry hit the ground running and were 0-4 to 0-0 ahead at the 13 minute mark.

Continued below…

.

They maintained their dominance and probably should have held a greater halftime lead than 0-6 to 0-1. Kerry continued in the same vein in the second half and Waterford had no answer to Kerry’s excellent running game.

Kerry’s defence refused to yield scores and the Kingdom’s midfield and forward lines continued to attack the Waterford goals.

Their chief tormentor was Patrice Diggin who finished the day with 0-11 with 0-8 coming from frees.

Kerry continued to keep Waterford scoreless in the second half and had extended their tally to 0-11 by the 40 minute mark.

They raised their 13th white flag in the 52nd minute and Jackie Horgan put the icing on the cake when she raised a green flag approaching the end.

Kerry continued their run of wins against Waterford with a comfortable victory on a scoreline of Kerry 1-16 Waterford 0-1.

Kerry Team & Scorers: Aoife Fitzgerald, Liz Houlihan, Niamh Leen (0-1), Michelle Costello, Patrice Diggin (0-11, 0-8f), Sara Murphy, Aine O’Connor, Elaine Ryall, Rachel McCarthy, Jessica Fitzell, Laura Collins (0-2), Norette Casey, Julianne O’Keeffe, Jackie Horgan (1-1), Brid Horan (0-1)

The Kerry team.

Kerry returned to action on Saturday when they welcomed Offaly to Hermitage Park, Lixnaw in the Liberty Ireland Premier Junior Camogie Championship.

On a perfect day for camogie, Patrice Diggin had Kerry two points ahead by the 8th minute mark with two frees. Offaly got off the mark in the 13th when No. 11 Dara Hanamy converted a free.

Some excellent play from Niamh Leen and Jackie Horgan put Patrice Diggin through on goal in the 14th minute but she was fouled and she converted the resulting free. Dara Hanamy replied with a free in the 28th.

Points from play from Patrice Diggin and Offaly’s Niamh Kileen left the halftime score at Kerry 0-4 Offaly 0-3.

Continued below…

.

At halftime Orla Gorman replaced Orla Maher on the Offaly Team. Kerry started the second half strongly and two Patrice Diggin frees had them 0-6 to 0-3 ahead at the 34 minute mark and the same player added from play in the 39th .

Action from the game.

Offaly had a goal chance in the 43rd minute but it was brilliantly repelled by the Kerry defence. Jackie Horgan scored a beautiful point from play in the 46th. Kerry made their first substitution when Norette Casey replaced Julianne O’Keeffe.

Patrice Diggin increased the Kerry tally in the 52nd minute with a point from play.

Alannah Whelan then replaced Clodagh Walsh. Offaly tried hard to breach the Kerry defence in the 54th but the Kingdom backline stood firm.

Following good play between Bríd Horan and Jackie Horgan, it fell to the latter to raise a white flag. Eilish Harrington replaced Bríd Horan on the Kerry team and Siobhán Killeen replaced Leanne Scully on the Offaly side.

Patrice Diggin and Niamh Kileen exchanged points in injury time as Kerry made their final substitution when Ann-Marie Leen replaced Rachel McCarthy.

Kerry 0-11

Limerick 1-5

Kerry made the journey to Croagh-Kilfinny GAA Club on Saturday to face the Treaty Women in the first round of the All-Ireland Premier Junior Camogie Championship.

Limerick won the toss and elected to play with the aid of a stiff wind. The breeze did not seem to affect Kerry free-taker Patrice Diggin as she opened the Kingdom’s account with a beautiful free in the 3rd minute.

While Rebecca Noonan scored a free for Limerick in the 5th minute, Patrice Diggin converted two more frees for Kerry in the 10th and 11th before the same player sent an excellent pass to Bríd Horan who split the posts in the 17th.

Continued below…

.

Points from Julianne O’Keeffe in the 22nd and Rebecca Noonan in the 23rd left the score at the 25 minute mark at 0-5 to 0-4 in favour of the visitors.

.

However in the first minute of injury-time, Limerick pounced for a goal to give them a 1-4 to 0-5 halftime lead. Kerry made their first substitution when Norette Casey replaced Áine O’Connor.

In the 35th minute Patrice Diggin scored from play and followed this up with a free in the 38th. In the 47th minute Patrice was unlucky to hit the upright with a free but Jackie Horgan was on hand to raise a white flag.

.

Rebecca Noonan got Limerick’s only second-half score with a free in the 51st minute. Clodagh Walsh replaced Eilish Harrington on the Kerry Team.

A hat-trick of frees from Patrice Diggin in the 54th, 58th and in the 1st minute of injury-time made it 0-11 to 1-5.

That proved to be the final score as Kerry ran their bench with Ann-Marie Leen replacing Jackie Horgan, Megan Weir replacing Julianne O’Keeffe and Emma Lawlor replacing Bríd Horan.

.

Limerick tried hard to get the goal that they needed but the Kerry defence stood firm and now look forward to a home game against Wicklow this weekend.

Kerry Clubs Take Part In Camogie Féile

.
Tralee Parnells Camogie

By Risteárd Ó Fuaráin

FOUR Kerry Teams participated in the Camogie Féile and it was a fantastic experience for these young girls to take part in such a prestigious competition and forge friendships with players from other counties.

Causeway and Cillard competed in Division 5 and Killarney and Tralee competed in Division 6.

Tralee Parnells welcomed Castleblayney Camogie Club. They faced Killarney and Four Roads on Friday evening and while they were unsuccessful, the spirit shown augured well for the rest of the competition.

They faced Castleblayney on Saturday morning and gave a great performance to win by a goal. Then it was off to Baile Bhuirne to face Bandon and another great performance gave them a four-point win.

Their next game was a semi-final meeting with the highly-fancied Edendork St. Malachy’s of Tyrone. Despite giving their all, the Tyrone Girls proved to be too strong. However, Cailíní Thrá Lí can be very proud of their achievements over the weekend.

Killarney Camogie

Killarney hosted Four Roads Camogie Club from Roscommon and made fantastic start to the competition on Friday evening by overcoming stiff opposition from Castleblayney and Tralee Parnells.

On Saturday morning, Killarney faced their guests, Four Roads, but unfortunately the Rossies proved too strong.

Killarney then progressed to the Cup quarter-final where they faced Clonakilty. After a tough battle at Baile Bhuirne, Cailíní Chill Airne emerged victorious and they were now looking forward to a Division 6 Cup semi-final meeting with Nemo Rangers, which took place at Mayfield.

However, despite a spirited performance, the Cork Girls proved too strong. Killarney were delighted that their guests Four Roads went on to lift the title. This was an excellent performance by the Killarney Girls and the future looks bright for the sport in the Killarney area.

Cillard Camogie

Cillard welcomed Castletown Geoghegan of Westmeath. They had an excellent start on Friday evening when they defeated Na Brídeoga of Mayo. They then faced their neighbours Causeway but despite a great performance, the laurels went to the girls in Maroon and White.

On Saturday morning, Cillard faced their guests Castletown Geoghegan and recorded an excellent victory.

They then travelled to Mallow to face Ballyhea in the Cup quarter-final. This was an enthralling contest but Ballyhea emerged victorious. All in Cillard can be very proud of the displays by their U14 Team over the weekend.

Causeway Camogie

Causeway welcomed Na Brídeoga of Mayo, a team they had defeated to capture the Féile title in 2018. On Friday evening they had two good wins against Castletown Geoghegan and Cillard.

On Saturday morning they continued their winning streak against Na Brídeoga. They then travelled to Cloughduv and had a one-point win against Oran of Roscommon. They then faced Ballyhea in the Division 5 Cup Final.

Ballyhea had beaten Cillard in the semi-final and they continued their success against Kerry Teams by lifting the title.

Causeway had led at halftime but Ballyhea’s second half performance gave them victory. It was a brilliant achievement by Causeway to reach the decider.

All in Kerry Camogie are proud of our teams’ performances over the weekend and we express our gratitude to their mentors, parents and all those who made the weekend such a memorable occasion. Go raibh maith agaibh go léir.

Kerry Overcome Déise To Reach Munster Final

.
.

By Risteárd Ó Fuaráin

KERRY travelled to Lemybrien in Waterford on Saturday evening, to face ‘cailíní na nDéise’ in the semi-final of the Munster Junior Camogie Championship.

This was a much-fancied Waterford outfit with a panel of 32 players on the evening while Kerry travelled with just 18 players due to injuries.

Kerry hit the ground running and were two points to one up at the 7 minute mark before a Niamh Murphy free levelled matters in the 11th.

Patrice Diggin then put Kerry back in front in the 15th and Bríd Horan put Kerry two ahead in the 17th minute.

.

Kerry then got a grip on the game and went in with a 0-8 to 0-2 halftime lead. Kerry had a good range of scorers in the first half with Sara Murphy contributing four points, Patrice Diggin scoring two with one each from Jackie Horgan and Bríd Horan.

Upon the resumption, two Niamh Murphy frees in the 3rd and 9th minutes of the second half left the score at 0-8 to 0-4.

However, Kerry stretched their lead to six by the 10th minute of the half before Niamh Murphy made it 0-10 to 0-6 with two more frees in the 13th and 16th minutes.

Kerry got the decisive score in the 20th minute when Laura Collins found the Waterford net to put Kerry 1-11 to 0-6 ahead.

Both teams exchanged late points to leave the final score at Kerry 1-12 Waterford 0-7. This was a brilliant evening for Kerry Camogie as they had to make a very long journey to play a strong Waterford side.

Kerry will now play Cork in the Munster Final after the Cork girls overcame Limerick in the other semi-final.

Battling Kerry Come Up Short Against Westmeath

.

Risteárd Ó Fuaráin on Kerry Camogie’s opening league game played on Sunday afternoon…

Kerry 0-7

Westmeath 0-10

.

KERRY welcomed Westmeath to John Mitchel’s GAA Club on Sunday in their first outing in Division 2 of the Littlewoods Ireland National Camogie League.

This was a Westmeath team that had been beaten by Cork in last year’s Division Two Final so were hot favourites against last year’s Division Three Champions.

Kerry made two changes prior to throw-in with Áine O’Connor and Bríd Horan replacing Kate Lynch and Caoimhe Spillane respectively.

On a wet and windy day for camogie, the visitors open their account in the 3rd minute through a free from their influential full forward Megan Dowdall.

Continued below…

.

Patrice Diggin opened the Kerry account in the 8th minute from a free and the hosts went ahead a minute later when Jessica Fitzell won a brilliant ball in the corner and she fed Julianne O’Keeffe who raised a white flag.

The Kerry camogie panel.

A Megan Dowdall free in the 13th minute was cancelled out by a Patrice Diggin free in the 16th and the same player put Kerry two points ahead in the 22nd minute when she converted a free following great play by both Jackie Horgan and Jessica Fitzell.

Megan Dowdall from play, Sheila McGrath and a Megan Dowdall free had Westmeath 0-5 to 0-4 ahead by the 29th minute mark.

Westmeath had a chance of a goal in the 1st minute of injury time but Aoife Fitzgerald brought off a brilliant save to leave the halftime score, Westmeath 0-5 Kerry 0-4.

Westmeath had the aid of a stiff breeze in the 2nd half but it was Kerry who went on the attack and a brilliant passage of play involving Laura Collins and Jackie Horgan was rewarded with a free, which Patrice Diggin duly converted to draw the sides level.

A Megan Dowdall free in the 34th minute put the visitors back in front. Kerry launched an attack in the 35th minute when a pinpoint pass from Patrice Diggin found Jessica Fitzell but her shot was parried away by Fiona Keating and Bríd Horan was unlucky not to latch onto the rebound.

In the 38th minute Westmeath increased their lead to two points when Sinéad McKenna split the posts.

A Westmeath wide in the 45th was followed by an attack on the Kerry goal in the 46th but the Kerry defence coped admirably and Aoife Behan lifted the siege.

A Megan Dowdall free in the 47th put Westmeath ahead by 0-8 to 0-5. A Patrice Diggin free in the 53rd minute reduced the margin to two. In the 58th minute, a promising attack by Kerry was repelled by the Westmeath defence.

Aoife Fitzgerald had made an excellent save at the end of the first and she did likewise in the 59th minute when she used her body to deny Westmeath Captain Máiréad McCormack and the sliotar went out for a 45”, which Megan Dowdall converted.

Máiréad McCormack completed the Westmeath scoring in the 60thminute with a point from play and the final score of the day came from Patrice Diggin when she converted a free.

Kerry tried hard to get the goal that would have given them a share of the spoils but it was not to be and it finished Westmeath 0-10 Kerry 0-7.

Ian Brick and his management will be very pleased with Kerry’s first outing in Division Two.

Last year’s Division Three champions acquitted themselves well against last year’s Division Two finalists and this performance bodes well for the rest of the campaign.

Kerry Team and Scorers:

Aoife Fitzgerald, Liz Houlihan, Niamh Leen (Captain), Michelle Costello, Laura Collins, Sara Murphy, Aoife Behan, Olivia Dineen, Áine O’Connor, Julianne O’Keeffe (0-1), Patrice Diggin (0-6f), Rachel McCarthy, Bríd Horan, Jackie Horgan, Jessica Fitzell.

Substitutions: Alannah Whelan for Bríd Horan (37th), Elaine Ryall for Jackie Horgan (58th), Eilish Harrington for Jessica Fitzell (59th), Megan Weir for Julianne O’Keeffe (60th)

Kerry Camogie Team Bids For Glory On Sunday

.
Niamh Leen in action.

KERRY are in another All-Ireland final on Sunday. This time it’s the camogie team in action and the Dublin ladies stand in the way of winning a Premier Junior title.

The good news is if you can’t be in Croke Park you can watch the game on the RTE Player from 12noon.

Kerry are making their very first appearance in Croke Park as they’ve gone a step further than 2017 when they exited the Championship at the semi-final stage.

Continued below…

.

They will draw inspiration from their National League Division 3 triumph in April as they make their second final appearance of the year.

Having topped their group by virtue of score difference, they were then impressive in their semi-final defeat of Roscommon to book their date with destiny on the hallowed turf of Croke Park.

Dublin are looking to avenge their painful defeat to Westmeath in last year’s All-Ireland Final as they aim to secure their first All-Ireland Premier Junior title since 2006.

The Dubs have a 100% record with wins over Armagh and Roscommon in the group stage before a dominant win over Offaly in the Semi-Final booked their return to Croke Park.

It should be a cracker of a game so tune in to see if there’s another All-Ireland coming to the Kingdom.

A comprehensive win then for Kerry Camogie over a fancied Roscommon team in The Ragg in Tipperary, in the final of Littlewoods Ireland Camogie League division three.

The game was played in difficult conditions both weather-wise and underfoot conditions.

This victory was forged by the scores in the first half but was steeled in the second half against all odds by a resilient Kerry defence who repelled everything that Roscommon threw at them.

.

After 36 seconds, Kerry were a point up from the stick of Caoimhe Shanahan. Patrice Diggin followed suit from a free and after 15 minutes, Patrice struck an indirect free towards the Roscommon goal. It was touched by a Roscommon player to the net.

Patrice Diggin struck over a point from play and another free putting Kerry ahead 1-4 to no score.

Rachel Fitzmaurice pucked over a point for Roscommon on 21 minutes and for about eight minutes they mounted a challenge to Kerry. Susan Spillane had their second point, but Kerry put paid to that challenge as Alana Whelan pulled on the ball to the net.

Roscommon were to have the aid of a stiff wind in the second half and were hoping that the aid of the wind might be enough to overcome Kerry.

However, Kerry were having none of this and got the first score of the second half from the stick of Aoife Behan.

Susan Spillane pointed a free for Roscommon, Patrice Diggin drilled a free over the Roscommon bar and Laura Collins pointed from play before Susan Spillane had a pointed free for Roscommon, their final point.

Aoife Behan had her second point to leave the final score Kerry 2-8 Roscommon 0-4.

Sara Murphy was immense at centre back, at full back Niamh Leen was imperious, they were well supported by Elaine Ryall, Michele Costello, Liz Houlihan and Aine O’Connor.

REPORT: Kerry Book Place In Division 3 Final After Victory Over Clare

.

By Risteárd Ó Fuaráin

The Kerry Camogie Team will face Roscommon in the Littlewoods Ireland Division 3 Final after a strong performance against Clare at Tom Healy Park, Abbeydorney on Sunday.

Prior to the game, a minute’s silence was observed to remember Oisín Cahill and Darragh Killeen, brother and cousin of Clare fullback Becky Cahill, who lost their lives in a car accident on the outskirts of Ennis on Easter Sunday.

When proceedings got underway, it was Kerry who started the brighter. In the 3rd minute Rachel McCarthy had a shot on goal but her attempt was saved.

Kerry opened the scoring in the 6th minute when Patrice Diggin tapped over a free and a minute later the same player added a point from play.

Captain Jackie Horgan extended the lead in the 9thminute and in the 10th, 12th and 14th, Patrice Diggin scored 3 points from play to give Kerry a 0-6 to 0-0 lead.

In the 18th minute, Aisling McMahon opened Clare’s account with a free and within a minute Niamh Mulqueen had raised another white flag for the visitors.

In the 21st minute a free was floated into the Kerry square but despite some anxious moments, the Kerry defence were able to clear their lines. In the 22nd minute Aisling McMahon was again successful with a free to leave the score at 0-6 to 0-3.

Kerry then had an opportunity for a goal but Sara Murphy’s penalty was saved. A Patrice Diggin free in the 1st minute of injury time left the halftime score, Kerry 0-7 Clare 0-3.

Upon the resumption, a Patrice Diggin free in the 32ndminute, a point from play from Alannah Whelan in the 33rd and another free from Patrice Diggin in the 36th extended Kerry’s lead to 0-10 to 0-3.

Aisling Malone replied for Clare in the 43rd but the visitors needed a green flag to get them back in the game.

However, a Patrice Diggin free in the 48th and a well-worked goal by the same player in the 55th gave Kerry a comfortable victory on a scoreline of Kerry 1-11 Clare 0-4.

Kerry will face Roscommon in the final this weekend. Date, time and venue to be confirmed.

Kerry Team and Scorers:

Alanna Maunsell, Liz Houlihan, Niamh Leen, Michelle Costello, Elaine Ryall, Sara Murphy, Aine O’Connor, Patrice Diggin 1-9 (0-5f), Laura Collins, Caoimhe Shanahan, Aoife Behan, Orla Young, Rachel McCarthy, Jackie Horgan 0-1, Alannah Whelan 0-1.

REPORT: Kerry Camogie Team Secures Victory Over Tyrone

.

Kerry 4-14

Tyrone 2-6

THE Kerry Camogie Team travelled to Healy Park in Omagh on Sunday hoping to extend their unbeaten record in Division 3 of the Littlewoods Ireland National Camogie League.

This game served as a curtain raiser to the Senior Football game between the same counties and it was encouraging that football fans arrived early to support the girls.

Kerry hit the ground running and were 1-1 to 0-0 ahead by the 2ndminute. By the 5th minute this had stretched to 2-1 to 0-1 and Kerry were moving the ball well.

A minute later they extended their lead to 2-2 to 0-1. At the 10 minute stage it was 2-3 to 0-1. Tyrone then raised two white flags leaving the score at the 15th minute mark at 2-3 to 0-3.

In the 17th minute a beautiful through ball from Patrice Diggin found captain Jackie Horgan and she found the Tyrone net pushing the Kerry girls further ahead on a score of 3-3 to 0-3.

By the 20 minute mark this lead had been extended to 4-3 to 0-4 and it was clear that the Tyrone defence were finding the Kerry attack difficult to handle.

Despite Tyrone finding the Kerry net, the Kerry girls held a strong halftime lead, 4-6 to 1-4. Points in the 4th & 11th minute of the 2nd half extended Kerry’s lead to 4-8 to 1-4.

Kerry continued in the same vein in the second half and despite another Tyrone green flag, Kerry led at the 45 minute mark by 4-9 to 2-5. By the 50th minute this had been extended to 4-11 to 2-5.

They then tagged on 3 more points to record a good victory on a final scoreline of 4-14 to 2-6. This was a solid performance by the entire team with a great spread of scorers.

This sets Kerry up for their final game when they welcome Roscommon to Abbeydorney on Easter Sunday at 2pm.

Should they win against the Rossies they will face Tyrone in the semi-final. However, should Roscommon leave Tom Healy Park with the points, the Kerry girls will face Clare in the semi-final.

Speaking after the game, Kerry Manager Stephen Goggin said he was extremely pleased with the performance and while it will be important in subsequent games to ensure that the team plays for the full 60 minutes, the margin of victory and the spread of scorers boded well for the future.

Kerry Team and Scorers. Alannah Maunsell, Liz Houlihan, Niamh Leen, Michelle Costello, Elaine Ryall, Sara Murphy, Aine O’Connor, Patrice Diggin (0-3, 1f), Laura Collins (0-2), Jessica Fitzell, Aoife Behan (0-1), Julianne O’ Keeffe, Rachel McCarthy (1-1), Jackie Horgan (Captain) (2-4), Alanna Whelan (1-1),

Kerry Camogie Team Off To A Winning Start In National League

.

Clare 0-4

Kerry 1-8

Maria Redmond gets in her strike under pressure from Laura Collins.

Kerry travelled to Meelick on Sunday to take on Clare in the first round of the Littlewoods National Camogie League Division 3. Conditions were perfect for Camogie.

At the outset it was clear that Clare were aware of the threat posed by Kerry No. 14 Patrice Diggin as she was double marked by fullback Rebecca Cahill & midfielder Corina McMahon.

However, Diggin made a statement of intent in the first minute winning her first battle.

Despite narrowly missing the target, it was clear that she was going to be a handful for the afternoon. In the 9th minute a great run by Captain Jackie Horgan resulted in a free, which Patrice duly converted.

Jackie’s midfield partner Orla Young was also proving to be industrious as she embarked on a number of runs, one of which followed a dispossession by Laura Collins.

Continued below…

.

Kerry continued to apply the pressure and Jessica Fitzell was narrowly wide having gathered possession from a Sara Murphy free.

In the 12th minute, Kerry were unlucky not to find the net. A powerful strike by Rachel McCarthy brought out an excellent save by Clare netminder Edel McNamra.

Jane Fitzgerald maintains possession under pressure from Orla Young and Laura Collins.

In the 15th minute, Patrice Diggins tapped over another free to make it 0-2 to 0-0. Clare got off the mark in the 22nd minute courtesy of a Siobhan Lane free.

In the 23rd minute Jessica Fitzell fired over to make it 0-3 to 0-1. In the 25th minute Patrice Diggins made it 0-4 to 0-1 from a free.

Clare were applying pressure but the Kerry full back line stood resolute. Clare were rewarded in the 27th minute by another Siobhán Lane free. Kerry had another goal chance in the 30th minute.

A brilliant run by Sarah Murphy & then by Jackie Horgan saw Rachel McCarthy bearing down on a crowded Clare goal but her hand pass was repelled by the Clare defence. That left the halftime score: Clare 0-2, Kerry 0-4.

A halftime substitution saw Julianne O’Keeffe replace Clodagh Walsh. The 2nd half was only 3 minutes old when Kerry found the Clare net.

The attack was started by Laura Collins who fed Patrice Diggin who in turn found the inrushing Aoife Behan and the Kerry No. 12 made no mistake crashing the ball past Edel McNamara in the Clare goal.

This was followed in the 34th minute by another pointed free from Clare’s Sinéad Lane. In the 36th minute a through ball from Jackie Horgan to Rachel McCarthy resulted in a free, which Patrice Diggin duly converted.

A minute later the same player converted another free following a good Kerry movement involving Laura Collins, Patrice & Sarah Murphy. Clare launched a number of attacks but the full back line marshalled by Niamh Leen stood firm.

In the 45th minute Caoimhe Shanahan replaced Rachel McCarthy and in the 47th Treise Moran replaced Michelle Costello.

Stephen Goggin speaks to the Kerry Camogie team after victory over Clare.

In the 51st minute Patrice Diggins added to her tally from frees. Bríd Horan & Alannah Whelan then replaced Jessica Fitzell & Jackie Horgan. In the 57th minute Clare’s Sinéad Power scored a beautiful point from the wing.

Following a foul on Alannah Whelan, Patrice Diggin converted the free to leave the final score: Clare 0-4, Kerry 1-8.

After the game, Kerry Manager Stephen Goggin said he was extremely pleased with the way Kerry raised their game in the second half & it was great to come away from Meelick with the points.

THE year in Kerry Camogie was celebrated at the annual awards social in Ballyroe Heights Hotel on Friday night with over 170 people attending.

Micheál Ó Muircheartaigh was the special guest at the occasion where presentations were made to teams who excelled throughout the year.

“It’s been a fantastic year for Kerry Camogie,” said PRO Risteárd Ó Fuaráin. “Cillard and Causeway did very well in Féile, the standout performances would have been the Kerry Under 15s and Clanmaurice  getting to an All-Ireland junior club final and representing Kerry with distinction. We’re very proud of all the teams this year.”

“We’re delighted as well that Niamh Leen, Patrice Diggins and the Clanmaurice team were honoured at the Kerry Sports Star Awards in Killarney last week. That was great recognition for Kerry Camogie. Patrice was also voted Munster GAA Camogie Player of the Year as well which is a great honour for her. Hopefully 2018 will be an even better year,” said Risteárd. Scroll down for photos…

Kerry went on to empty their bench and Jessica Fitzell, who was named on the starting fifteen but was replaced by Saidbhe Horgan, entered the fray to get Kerry’s fifth goal.

The game had gone a little flat given that Kerry were never in any danger of losing. Kerry would have preferred a more stern test given that they are only one game away from a final appearance.
