A 5K CHARITY walk for the ‘Paint it Pink’ breast cancer awareness initiative took off from The Greyhound Bar on Sunday.
“We did it because myself and participants involved know people who have cancer and we thought it would be a good cause,” said one of the organisers David Walsh.
So far the group have raised almost €400 from donations.

The walk set off from The Greyhound and went up past Shanakill, over by Killeen, down Oakpark. The last leg turned in by Brewery Road, down Rock Street and back to the Greyhound where drinks and refreshments provided by Lee Strand and Dunnes Stores.
SHANAKILL Resource Centre was draped in pink last Tuesday for a coffee morning to highlight awareness of breast cancer.

“We wanted to raise awareness about breast cancer,” said one of the organisers.
“We used the opportunity of getting our women’s group in, so we could get information leaflets out there to advertise it to the community. The coffee morning is so we can have a little chat and speak about the signs and what to look out for.”
The Marie Keating foundation sent the women’s group balloons and information leaflets. The group provided their own personal touch by backing cup cakes, delightfully topped of with pink icing for the occasion.
THERE was a big crowd in Ballyseedy Garden Centre on Friday morning for the annual ‘Paint It Pink’ fundraiser in aid of the Irish Cancer Society.
Many ladies – and some gents – were true to the theme of the day and wore something pink to raise breast cancer awareness.
“It’s our third year and there’s a huge turnout,,” said Mary O’Sullivan, organiser of the event.
“I think it’s because it’s a Friday morning and a lot of the mums are free with the kids in school. It’s been a great success and people were brilliant to come out,” she said.

People made a donation and received free coffee/tea and cake from the cafe and there was a huge number of spot prizes donated by the suppliers of Ballyseedy Garden Centre, with hampers also donated by customers.
There was also a fashion show, MC’d by Gillian Wharton, featuring clothes from Edinburgh Woollen Mills, Meadows and Byrne and Annburys.

TRALEE is getting ready to host a very special fundraising event later this month when the ‘Paint it Pink 5k Walk’ takes place from outside Greyhound Bar on Sunday, October 25 at 5pm.
The event is being organised as part of the ‘Paint it Pink’ campaign that is being run nationwide by the Irish Cancer Society’s Breast Cancer Campaign.
Through this they are encouraging people across Ireland to hold their own pink fundraiser at home, in their community or at work to try and help raise vital life-saving funds for supporting breast cancer research and support services.

This will be a family fun orientated walk with everyone encouraged to come down and attend the event.
This isn’t the only fundraising event taking place in Kerry.
A pink coffee morning and fashion show has been arranged for this Friday morning, October 16, in Ballyseedy Garden Centre starting at 11am in the café with the money raised from this going towards the ‘Paint it Pink’ campaign (see previous article here).
