ELEVEN swimmers braved the elements for two great causes on New Year’s Eve out in Banna.

Jennifer O’Carroll Reidy first organised a swim on New Years Eve 2021 in aid of the Irish Cancer Society, in tribute to her uncle, Antony ‘Anto’ Carroll who passed away in August of that year.

Jennifer decided to organised the swim again on Saturday in memory of Anto and others who have passed away this year, including Emer Hayes, Erskine O’Connor and Patrick Dennehy.

The members of the Carroll and Dennehy families were joined by Geraldine Shannon, who is doing the ’12 Swims of Christmas’ in aid of the Irish Heart Foundation.

It was a cold, blustery day, but Jennifer and the rest of the swimmers took to the water with great alacrity and felt all the better for it of course!

Jennifer created a gofundme page for the event which is still active and has raised over €1,800 over the past two swims. If you would like to donate, go to the page by clicking here. To go to Geraldine Shannon’s fundraiser for the Irish Heart Foundation, click here.
