TANAISTE and Minister for Social Protection Joan Burton officially opened the Intreo Centre on Godfrey Place on Friday morning.

At the opening, the Tanaiste was accompanied by Arthur Spring TD and while there she met Mayor of Kerry John Brassil, Mayor of Tralee Jim Finucane, along with Intreo staff.

Following the amalgamation of employment and community welfare services and staff from other agencies with the Department of Social Protection, work has been undertaken to develop an integrated service.

Intreo Centre provides employment and income supports in one place offering  employment advice, guidance and support service.

The visit came at a time when the latest official unemployment figures in Kerry and Tralee showed a reduction from 15,126 to 13,827 (8.59%) and 5,996 to 5,572 (7.07%) respectively in the last 12 months.
