THE guys from Tesco in the town centre paid a visit to Coláiste Gleann Lí on Thursday to hand over a cheque.

It was part of Tesco’s Community Fund initiative and Austin McGinley, who works in Tesco and is a parent of a former pupil in Coláiste Gleann Lí, suggested that the school put their name forward for it.

The result is a cheque for €199 and while it might not sound like much in the great scheme of things, Principal Richard Lawlor said every little helps.

“We always consider ourselves to be a community-based school, serving the needs of the community, just like Tesco. It’s amazing what contributions like this can do. We have a little garden here with plants, shrubs, benches and when children need some space or a break they can go out there. This all costs money and fundraisers like this help,” he said.
