Cllr Pa Daly.

A NEW poll conducted for TG4 revealed tonight, shows Independent TD Michael Healy Rae and Sinn Fein’s Pa Daly leading the field in the Kerry constituency.

The poll, which was carried out last weekend in areas around the constituency on 538 people and carries a margin of error of plus or minus four percentage points, shows both candidates neck and neck on 20%.

They are followed by Minister of State Brendan Griffin on 17%, Fianna Fáil’s Norma Foley on 10%, her party colleague, John Brassil TD, Green Party candidate Cleo Murphy is also on 9%, Fine Gael’s Mike Kennelly is on 6%, Fianna Fáil’s Norma Moriarty is on 4% with Danny Healy Rae also on 4%. Sonny Foran of Aontú is on 2% and Ted Cronin on 1%.

While the poll might not well for Danny Healy Rae at first glance, it’s worth remembering that he also received 4% in a TG4 pre-election poll back in 2016, but sailed into the Dáil after that election thanks to clever vote management and transfers from his brother.

As every candidate will say, it’s the poll on Saturday that matters, but it must be encouraging news especially for first time candidate Pa Daly of Sinn Féin. It’ll be fascinating to see what happens at the weekend.
