Speaking after the convention, Tom Barry said; “I am delighted and honoured to have been selected to fill the vacant Sinn Féin seat on Kerry County Council. I want to thank the membership of Sinn Féin in the Listowel Electoral Area for their endorsement of me here tonight.

“I also want to wish the very best of luck to my colleague Diane Nolan who served the party so well on her time as both a town and county councillor, she is a big loss for us locally but I have no doubt that our loss is Kilkenny’s gain. I am looking forward to working with my colleagues on Kerry County Council to making sure North Kerry gets the best representation possible and that our area will continue to be a great place to live and work in.”
