Sympathies
It was with deep regret that the Club learned of the death of Micheál Kerins, father of our President and sponsor Rory Kerins last week. Micheál had a deep passion for hurling and transferred this passion to his family, including Rory.

In fact, it was a proud moment for Micheál in his 89th year when he led the parade before Tralee Parnells’ first home match in Caherslee last year on attaining Senior Club status. On behalf of the club, we extend our deepest sympathies to Rory, U14 player Odhran and all their extended family on their sad loss. Ar dheis De go raibh a anam dilis.

Minor Camogie

Tralee Parnells Minor Camogie team that played in the County Championship semi-final last Saturday in Ardfert

While our Minors didn’t win, they saved their best performance of the season for the County Championship Semi-final! We couldn’t have asked for more team cohesion, better strategic attacking & unrelenting work-rate: 1-5 on the scoreboard does not do them justice.

The analysis by the players of their own performance at the 3x breaks, & the ensuing improvements in every quarter, demonstrated the maturity they have gained this season playing adult camogie. Looking forward to seeing everyone for a bit of fun at the Saturday Street League over the next 4x weeks. The mentors are very proud of all 16 players.

U16 Camogie

The results of the under 16 Camogie county semi-finals see Tralee Parnells through to the Shield Final on Sunday the 11th of October.  The gathering storm and rain clouds did not dampen the spirits of the Tralee Parnells as they hosted a strong and skillful CillArd team at the county semi final in Tralee last Tuesday.

In common with the meeting of this pairing in their league round encounter, CillArd were highly fancied and boasted a strong panel.  However, the home side organised themselves to take on the repeated CillArd attacks in the opening stages where, playing with a following wind the visitors were early entrants in the scoring stakes.

Stalwart defence and vigorous harrying and tackling reduced the CillArd scope to get in shots on target and thwarted many of the scoring chances.  After the restart, as the rain that had been well forecast began to intensify, Parnells used the wind advantage to launch high puck-outs and began to create their own scoring opportunities.

After battling their way up the pitch, a green flag raised by the Parnells attack renewed their vigour and in the final stages they managed to manufacture several scoring attempts, some narrowly outside the uprights in the increasing gale but good omens as a volley of near misses culminated in a well taken point in the closing stages.

This week we were delighted to welcome Aoife Foran back to Camogie and we send our best wishes for a speedy recovery to those who could not make this match due to injury including Ella and Róise.  Parnell players on the night Aoibhin Corridan, Saorlaith Moore, Grace O’Brien, Aoife O’Sullivan, Nóra Cadogan, Ailisha Daughton, Danielle Griffin, Caoilinn Hickey, Gráinne Leahy, Emma McCluskey, Caoimhe Donnelly, Clodagh O Sullivan, Síle Lynch, Aoife Foran, Jessica O’Loughlin, Grainne Diggin, Shauna Harris, Lana O’ Connell.  Well played all.

U12 Camogie

Royal Blues

Tralee Parnells U12 Royal Blue Camogie team that played Causeway in the U12A Shield Final in Dromakee last Sunday

Tralee Parnells 2-1 Causeway 2-2

Last Sunday in Dromakee, our Royal Blue team were in the U12 Div A Shield Final. Having been beaten by the minimum in the Cup semi-final vs Killarney, the team was again pipped by a single point again, this time by Causeway. This team is on the brink of greatness – our time will come! Thanks to all the girls and their mentors who put in a tremendous effort on Sunday and throughout the year.

Amber

Tralee Parnells U12 Amber Camogie team that played Sliabh Luachra in the U12B Shield Final in Killarney last Sunday

Tralee Parnells 2-0 Sliabh Luachra 5-1

At the same time our Royal team were playing, the Amber team played in their Shield Final in Spa, Killarney. The mentors are very proud of all the girls and how they have come on individually and as a team over the past few months. We had a slow start to the match and unfortunately left in two goals in the first quarter that made it hard to come back from as we struggled to get the sliotar to the other end of the field. Very adverse weather conditions were against the girls but they battled on through the wind, cold and rain and definitely were improving as the match went on – again all girls showed great heart and kept going to the end but it just wasn’t our day. Looking forward to a great season next year with a fantastic group of girls – best of luck to all who are moving up to U14 next year.

U8 Camogie

Tralee Parnells U8 Camogie players that received their end of year certificates and goody bags in Caherslee last Saturday

Our U8s had their last session in Caherslee last Saturday – the sun came out and the girls were delighted to receive certificates, medals and party bags! A big thanks to Gráinne, Aoife and Saoirse for all the help this year, it worked seamlessly, great progress has been made and we can’t wait till next year!

U13 Hurling

Tralee Parnells 1-1 Ballyheigue 2-4

Last Sunday in Caherslee, in extremely windy conditions, our U13s played Ballyheigue. This was the first time this group of players played together as a team this year. Accordingly, they were very slow to get into a rhythm and Ballyheigue stole a bit of a march on them. Though the wind was blowing across the pitch, it seemed to favour Ballyheigue in the 1st half and by half time they had used it to their benefit and led 2-2 to 0-1. Our boys came into it in the second half and managed to get a grip on the game but unfortunately the shooting was wayward. We were threatening the Ballyheigue goal and a superb solo effort by Eoghan Costello got the goal the boys deserved but unfortunately it was a little too late. Team: Cian Harris, Conor Dennehy, Kyle Benson, Sean Michael Redican, Liam O’Connell, Cathal Fitzgerald, Jack Canty, David Sargent, Eoghan Costello (1-1), Liam Cooper, Christian Kennedy, William Somers, Ryan Sheehy, Luke Hannifin, Daniel Spring, Darragh Morris.

U10 Hurling

Tralee Parnells U10 hurlers that beat Lixnaw last Thursday evening in Lixnaw

Our U10 hurlers had another great win last Thursday evening as they beat Lixnaw by 6 points on a showery evening in Hermitage Park. The elements didn’t phase them and they ploughed on like warriors. Well done boys!

Street League

Our end of year street league threw-in last Saturday on the IT astroturf with our combined U14 and U16 hurlers facing off against each other on 4 mixed teams. In the 1st match, Kerry played Cork and after a close 1st half, the Cork side pulled away to win on a scoreline of 11-16 to 9-7. The second game between Clare and Tipperary was a much closer affair (boosted by some subs from the first game) and in an exciting finish, a last minute goal by Clare captain Darragh Moloney ensured the spoils for the Clare team on a final score of 6-15 to 9-4. Next week (restrictions permitting) Kerry play Clare and Cork play Tipperary. Anyone that was unavailable last week is of course welcome next week – new hurlers also welcome. Just a €5 charge towards the hire of the astroturf. Our under 15s and over 15s camogie players will also take to the astoturf next Saturday as they bring the curtain down on a very successful season – should be a hive of activity! Team mentors will be in touch with the details.
