traleeparnells 2GAA/Camogie Initiative:

Parnells Chosen for new GAA/Camogie initiative.  Parnells are one of 8 clubs selected nationally to roll out a new GAA/Camogie initiative ‘hurl with me’.

The idea behind it is to get parents involved over a 6-week period on the evening that the children are training. Parents will be coached in the basic skills of the game and each will receive a hurley and sliotar. The idea is to encourage the parents of our hurlers and camogie players to become involved in their child’s practice outside of training.  More information to follow.

Under 8s:

A great evening of hurling Friday as Parnells under 6’s and 8’s took on our neighbours Abbeydorney in Caherslee.  Lovely to see the strong numbers, the panels divided in 2 to play 2 games against each of the opposition line ups.

Welcome New Members:

New players always welcome.  It has been great to see new faces at Caherslee the last few Friday evenings.  You can register your child online at Parnells online web page.  Just follow the link from our blog at http://traleeparnellshurling.blogspot.ie/ and from our Facebook page.

Under 10s:

Well done to the under 10s who represented Parnells in the North Kerry Blitz Saturday.  It was unfortunate that so many of our players were committed to the Mitchels Blitz which clashed for us.  Hopefully there might be better coordination across the county on future occasions.

Summer Break:

Parnells are now on our 2 week 2016 Summer Break.  Most age groups will not train again the next 2 Fridays, the 29th and 5th.  Please keep an eye out for manager texts for any notifications for individual teams.  Enjoy the break and we will see you all back refreshed in August.

Camogie Golf Classic:

Anyone who is available to play in the Kerry Camogie Fundraiser on Saturday 13 August, please contact Richard McCluskey in Parnells.

Happy Birthday:

Parnells club official launch took place 4 years ago today in Austin Stacks park so happy anniversary us. The club has made great progress to date and if we continue the hard work on and off the field we’ll be a serious force in the years to come.

We are currently involved in a number of projects that will help to build the profile of the club locally and nationally. Projects like the primary school coaching with our GDA David O Dea, healthy club initiative led by Ros Fitzgerald and now the ‘come hurl with me’ initiative where we are one of 8 clubs nationally to be selected.

All committee members and managers are asked to help promote and progress these initiatives in any way they can. We are also asking you to feed back any opportunities out there that the club can take advantage of in terms of use of facilities for training, fundraising opportunities etc.

In four years we have gone from fielding an under 13 team to now fielding teams from Under 6 to minor level. Just something to note, the team photo on https://www.facebook.com/TraleeParnellsHurlingClub/ is the original panel of players we had in 2002 and it was a mix of 11 to 14 year olds, from that panel of 35 we currently have 9  players still with hurling with us (not including Ronan!!!) with another 9 not able to commit to hurling due to other sports.

The club is nothing without the club members so managers and coaches must keep the enthusiasm going at training and matches even if results are not going our way. Keep after the parents and kids and encourage them to keep hurling.
