THE Institute of Technology Tralee will register over 1,500 new learners this September seeing an increase of 25% in level 8 CAO offers on this time last year.

New students will enter the Institute from the CAO, Springboard, FETAC linked/advanced progression routes and international markets.

Dr Brendan O’Donnell, Vice-President, Academic Affairs and Registrar stated that the ITT has seen a significant increase in level 8 applications with the newly introduced BSc in Veterinary Bio-Sciences performing extremely well.

“Nationally there has been a modest increase in applications in the area of the built environment which would include programmes on offer at the ITT such as the BSc in Civil Engineering. Business applications have also increased significantly at the Institute,” he said.

Overall at the IT Tralee there is a marginal increase in the points across the majority of programmes with level 6 and 7 offers to remain in line with 2016 offers.

Points for nursing across the country have declined marginally and the IT Tralee points reflect this minimum decline.

This, according to Dr. O’Donnell is due to the supply factor which has seen the Department of Health increasing the number of nursing places on offer, which he outlined is a welcome development given the pressures on the health system.

Over 500 international students will enrol on programmes offered by the Institute in the academic year 17/18.

Dr. Oliver Murphy welcomed the increase in CAO applications and stated that all honours degrees at the ITT now incorporate a work-placement component, a factor which he believes increases the attractiveness of the ITT as a third level destination.

“Work experience combined with the curriculum delivered by our committed and dedicated academic team ensures that the graduates of the IT Tralee are work-ready, with 89% of our graduates securing work or pursuing further education opportunities such as Masters of PhDs within 6 months of graduating”

The IT Tralee looks forward to welcoming the new class of 2017 and would encourage any students  who received a CAO offer from the ITT may have some queries to contact one of team at at 066 7145635 who are on hand to offer advice and direction.
