Tralee Triathlon Club Members Off To World Championships

Suzanne O’Sullivan, Ciara Tierney and Seamus Hoare of Tralee Triathlon Club.

IT’S been a good year for Tralee Triathlon Club and even better for some its athletes who have been chosen to represent Ireland at the World Championships in 2017.

Suzanne O’Sullivan from Farranfore and Ciara Tierney from Tralee will both be representing Ireland at the 2017 ITU World Triathlon Championships in Rotterdam next year.

Following on from their success this year at national level, the two women will now represent their county and country on the international stage.

Suzanne had a successful year on the triathlon circuit with wins in her age category in Ennis and Cobh and a second place win in Kinsale and Lough Cutra.

Ciara Tierney came second overall in Glin Triathlon and won her age category in Joey Hannon in Limerick. She also won her age group in her local triathlon, Tri Kingdom Come in Tralee, and in Ennis. She took second place in Wexford and Schull.

Club member, Seamus Hoare, Tralee also has a successful triathlon season in his age category and has been the crowned the over 65 Triathlon Ireland national series champion.

He won his age category at home in Tralee and also won in Kilrush, Ennis and Schull and took second place in Cobh putting him centre stage for the World Championships next year as well.

Another club member with huge success is Milosz Wojcik who won the European Long Distance Championships earlier this summer in the impressive time of 9 hours 16 minutes for the a 3.8k swim, an 180k bike and a full marathon.

His win allowed him to qualify for the the World Championships.

Meanwhile, up and coming triathlete, Cillan Tierney, who has previously represented Ireland on an international level, has been nominated for Triathlon Ireland junior triathlete of the year. Triathlon club members are currently invited to vote for the Tralee athlete who has had a very successfull season including second place in the National Super Series.

Chairman of Tralee Triathlon Club, John Quilter, says it is wonderful to see local athletes get recognition.

“This is a huge success for the county, the club and of course for the athletes themselves. We are delighted that they have reached this high level and we wish them every success.”
