A TRALEE architect’s building design, which scooped four national awards recently, is now shortlisted for the ‘2015 World Architecture Festival Award’.

Louise Cotter, who is originally from the St Brendan’s Park area and now based in Cork, designed the Dún Laoghaire Lexicon Library building with her firm ‘Carr Cotter Naessens Architects’.

It will definitely be a strong contender going into these world finals after it scooped two national awards at the ‘Royal Institute of Architects of Ireland Awards’ (RIAI) last week, along two more awards at another ceremony a few days later.

The Dlr Lexicon building as it’s known, won the ‘Best Culture’ and ‘Best Public’ building 2015 at the awards ceremony in Dublin last week, with the building also winning at the ‘2015 Schueco Excellence Awards’ where it took home the ‘Overall Excellence Award’ and the ‘Sustainability Award’.

It was described by judging panel at the awards as ‘a beautifully made, beautifully crafted building that looks like it’ll be here for a long time. An excellent piece of architecture’.

It will now be vying to win its individual category at the World Awards which will take place in Singapore from November 4 to November 6, with each shortlisted building also hoping to win the ultimate accolade of ‘World Building of the Year 2015’.
