ONE of the more interesting scenes in RTE’s ‘All Ireland Final Day’ documentary shown last night were the exchanges between Kerry v Dublin referee, David Coldrick and the players.
The programme provided an entertaining insight into the build-up to All-Ireland final day with interviews with Kerry coach Cian O’Neill and Radio Kerry’s Weeshie Fogarty, among many others.
The scene though that has gathered most attention is, unsurprisingly, Philly McMahon’s eye gouge of Kieran Donaghy.

Immediately after the incident, Donaghy can be seen going straight to Coldrick and saying; “he [McMahon] gouged my eye on the ground, Dave.”
Coldrick then replies “I didn’t see that now, Kieran… that was just two lads competing, that’s all… Lads, lads. It’s okay. It’s alright. It’s alright, Philly.”
To be fair to the Austin Stacks man, he left it at that. In the next play he wins the hop ball and passes it to Killian Young, who agonisingly drops the pass metres out from the goal.
