Zoe O'Connor 1IT’S officially the festive season. Well, yes, it is, according to the array of selection boxes available in Tesco’s.

Since it is only the beginning of October, I can’t deny that this scares me a little bit.

Contrary to popular belief, I actually do keep up with the news. And according to many sources of media; the recession is technically over. I am a bit sceptical of that statement, but I think growing up in a recession will always make me a bit more conscious of money.

But, whether or not you believe that the bad period has ended, everyone is still going to be picking out their Christmas trees around now.

I can’t blame them.

Christmas and even for some, Halloween, is a happier time of the year. It’s the time of boxes of Roses everywhere around the house, warm fires – along with warm conversation.

Obviously, it is also a time of gift giving and finally laying your hands on the pair of shoes that you have been lusting after all year. If we are honest, we wouldn’t buy any of this stuff any other time of the year.

You are so swathed in your warm blankets and so drowned in your tea, that we tend not to notice the world around us. We don’t check our bank accounts as often, we don’t pore over the financial section of the paper just as much ( because we all know that is where I spend most of my time!) and we just let ourselves get lost in the ‘magic’ just for a little while.

Life can be as depressing as hell, and I am not the only a teenager enduring the situation! I can’t imagine how it must be for some of the other people in the world. So, when the opportunity presents itself to not think of it, we run towards that finish line.

I think we would all rather soak up the festive season for as long as we can, as soon as we can, because we know (or dream) that it’s the time of no worries. It’s the time where everyone has an excuse to be happy.

To some it may seem just like “the dog ate my homework” excuse, but I think any excuse to be happy in a world like this one, is a pretty damn good reason to smile.

I don’t know about you but I am going to be one of the first to run into the pile of golden leaves and one of the first to pick up a Christmas tree (or at least drag my Mom to get one)….

Considering Orlagh Winters is ahead of the trend with Winters Displays, and she is one of the biggest trendsetters I know… It’s officially the festive season folks.
