Seniors
Credit Union SFL Division 3 Round 11
St Pats 0-14 Firies 0-12
St Pats secured their division 3 status for next year when they overcame a dogged Firies challenge to win by 2 points last Sunday afternoon ion Blennerville in the last round of the County League.
St Pats started the brighter side and were 2points up through captain, David O’Callaghan and Fergal O’Brien after 5 minutes. Firies’ Padraig De Brun was sent for an early shower when he was black carded for dissent after 9 minutes and was replaced by William Courtney.
This didn’t deter the home side as they added a couple more points having enjoyed plenty possession and the defence pushing up on their markers and turning over the ball several times. Firies first point came after 14 minutes through a free converted by Aaron Flynn and he added another from play 5 minutes later. The point of the half came late towards the end of the half when Eoin Greaney collected the ball, turned and pointed from an acute angle which was acknowledged by both sets of supporters.
The last point of the half was converted from free by Aaron Flynn deep into injury time after Niall Donohue received treatment from a knock later in the half. The home side had plenty of possession and missed some scorable chances but were still good enough to keep the away side at bay as they led by 8 points to 5 at the short whistle.
Firies came out strongly this half with inter-county player, Jack Sherwood moved to the half-forward line and this made a difference as he was responsible for his side’s first point of the half and was instrumental to the next 2 as they drew level for the first time after 6 minutes played.
Brendan Poff put St Pats ahead with a fine effort 3 minutes later only to be cancelled out by Sean Burke. Paul McMahon held off the challenge of his marker to put St Pats ahead from close range. Fergal O’Brien scored St Pats last 4 points and the defence line withstood the late surge of Firies who had the opportunity to draw the match late on when Aaron Flynn was impeded inside the square for a penalty.
He stepped up to take the kick but his effort was saved by Paudie Bailey who parried the ball away to safety denying the opposition another goal scoring opportunity. Sean Burke pointed 2 minutes after normal time but it was not enough as the home side romped to a victory on a score line of 0-14 to 0-12.
There were brilliant displays from both sides with Jack Sherwood making his now familiar darting runs into the opposition’s area, Aaron Flynn’s 7 points which included 4 frees, St Pats Kieran Dwyer and Tommy Lynch leading from the back, David O’Callaghan’s work rate but Fergal O’Brien took the game to the visitors especially late in the second half with his direct play and accurate point scoring with both feet, contributing 5 points.
Congratulations to the management team and all involved with the panel.

Sympathy
The club would like to extend its sympathy to the family and friends of Cathy Stack Shanakill.
Na Gaeil travelled to Mallow on Saturday last to take on Cork Champions Kilshannig in the Munster Quarter final of the Premier Junior Championship. The pitch was in great shape and the conditions were perfect for football in November.
Na Gaeil got off to a great start with a pointed free from Dara Devine after three minutes for a foul on Diarmuid O’Connor. Jamie Lowham and Diarmaid Herlihy kicked one each from play and this was followed by another pointed free from Dara Devine for a foul on Jamie Lowham.
Na Gaeil were totally on top winning all their individual battles all over the field and putting the opposition’s defence under fierce pressure. On the quarter hour mark Eoin O’Neill kicked a long ball into Diarmaid Herlihy and he finished it to the net to make it 1-04 to no score.
Dara Devine scored a wonderful point from play in the twenty first minute to extend Na Gaeil’s lead further. Kilshannig had no answer to the Tralee side’s intensity with their defence totally on top. Jack Barry and Diarmuid O’Connor had the measure of the O’Hanlon brothers at midfield where they were ably assisted by the industrious and hard working Dan O’Connor.
Dan Goggin was also working tirelessly in the half forward line setting many attacks in motion. It looked like Kilshannig were going to finish the half scoreless. But when Eoin O’Sullivan kicked a high ball into the Na Gaeil square in injury time Clare referee Chris Maguire awarded Kilshannig a penalty for a foul on their corner forward. Eanna O’Hanlon duly dispatched it to the net.
This gave the Avondhu side a lifeline and some hope for the second half. Score at the interval: Na Gaeil: 1-05; Kilshannig: 1-0.
Kilshannig came out after the break with all guns blazing and exerted some pressure on Na Gaeil for the first time in the game.
They dominated the first ten minutes of the half but the Na Gaeil defence weathered the storm and Kilshannig could only manage a pointed free from the boot of Eanna O’Hanlon in this period.
After two Na Gaeil players were treated for minor injuries in the tenth minute the referee threw up the ball which was won by Jack Barry. He off loaded it to Diarmuid O’Connor who cut through the Kilshannig defence.
He slipped a pass to Diarmaid Herlihy and he finished it to the Kilshannig net. Na Gaeil got into their stride and dominated proceedings once more.
Diarmaid Herlihy pointed in the twelfth minute and Diarmuid O’ Connor calmly slotted over a 45 two minutes later. The unerring Dara Devine fired over two further frees to put Na Gaeil eleven points up with ten minutes left to play.
The Tralee side got a little complacent and a few misplaced passes allowed Kilshannig reduce the margin somewhat. Substitute Jerome Murphy sneaked in for a goal with Kieran Twomey and Conor McMahon adding points to bring it back to a six point game. But the outstanding Na Gaeil defence battened down the hatches once more and snuffed out every Kilshannig attack from there on.
Eoin Walsh raced through and scored a lovely point in the twentieth minute followed by another great point from Mike Griffin in the twenty eighth minute. Referee Chris Maguire blew the final whistle after four minutes of injury time had been played. Final score: Na Gaeil: 2-11; Kilshannig: 2-03.
This was a great team performance by Na Gaeil. Timmy Culloty was solid between the posts. The full back line of Ryan O’Neill, Kieran Dineen and Damien Bourke didn’t put a foot wrong all through.
In front of them Fergal and Andrew Barry along with Eoin O’Neill and captain Eoin Doody were on top of their game cutting off the supply of ball into the Kilshannig inside forwards and attacking at every opportunity.
That Kilshannig only managed to score two points from play over the hour is testament to this. Kieran Donovan, Shane Fitzgerald, James O’Connor and Darragh Reen all impressed when introduced.
All in all it was a good day at the office for the Na Gaeil players and management. Thanks to all our supporters that travelled to Mallow to cheer on the lads on the day. We will expect an even bigger crowd in Austin Stack Park on Saturday next when Na Gaeil take on Michael Cusacks of Clare in the Munster Semi Final at 1pm.
Team: Timmy Culloty, Ryan O’Neill, Kieran Dineen, Damien Bourke, Fergal Barry, Andrew Barry, Eoin Doody, Diarmuid O’Connor, Jack Barry, Dan O’Connor, Eoin O’Neill, Dan Goggin, Diarmaid Herlihy, Jamie Lowham, Dara Devine. Subs: Mike Griffin for Jamie Lowham; Eoin Walsh for Ryan O’Neill; Kieran Donovan for Eoin O’Neill; Darragh Reen for Dan Goggin; James O’Connor for Dara Devine; Eamon O’Neill for Timmy Culloty.

We wish to sincerely thank out Senior Team and Management for their commitment all year.
This was a particularly difficult year for all of them with no final date for the last round of the County League known for over three months.
Its a credit to them all to have put in the effort they did all year especially on Sunday when they lost by a point.
Frank O’Rahilly, his management team and the senior players have been a positive influence at senior team level all year and have been a great for the club at all levels. It has been a privilege to have them involved and to support them all year.
We wish to thank our supporters who travelled to Dromid on Sunday and to all the games all year. Despite the loss on Sunday it was a really good year supporting our senior team.
Match Report from Sunday:
A hugely tense and exciting game in Dromid Pearses resulted in a late victory for the home side ensuring their survival in division 2. Dromid started the game well with the opening two points before Ballymac levelled the game.
The teams then traded points back and forth with Ballymac edging into a one point lead. Dromid then took a well worked goal to leave them with a two point lead which is how it remained at the break after the teams scored another 2 points apiece. Ballymac exploded into life with an unanswered 1-2 which looked to give them a huge advantage on a day when conditions were poor but to Dromid’s credit, they forced huge turnovers and turned the tide kicking 5 of the next 6 points.
With Ballymac trailing by a point entering the final few minutes they heroically turned the tide and chipped over two points to put them within striking distance of victory. However, the home side would not be denied and with two huge turnovers they hit the visitors on the break to get two late points to send them into a one point lead. To Ballymac’s great credit they battered the home team’s goal for a late winner but it was not to be and the home team survived on a scoreline of 1-14 to 1-13.

Mid Kerry Senior Football Championship Semi-Final:
Milltown Defy Pre-Match Underdog Tag to Book Mid-Kerry Final Spot’
Milltown/Castlemaine 0-11 Glenbeigh/Glencar 0-9. Report By Dara O’Connor
Milltown/Castlemaine journeyed to Glenbeigh today to take on the hosts in the Mid Kerry Senior Football Championship Semi-Final, with the winner facing into a meeting with Laune Rangers in the final in 2 weeks’ time. Glenbeigh/Glencar who were the reigning champions were looking to add their fifth Mid Kerry title this decade by securing this year’s Championship but they were met by a young, energetic and hungry Milltown/Castlemaine side eager to also advance to the 2019 showpiece in the District. It was a game where the hosts only led twice all through but Milltown/Castlemaine finished strong to ensure the victory.
Dylan O’Neil opened the scoring within the first few minutes with a superb score off the ground, Jonathan O’Sullivan who put in a huge performance followed this up to give to give Milltown/Castlemaine an early 0-2 to 0-0 lead. Donal O’Neil who was called into action twice in the opening half saved brilliantly from attempts by both Pa Wren & Gavin McKenna to keep the hosts in the reckoning.
Tommy Cahill through two pointed frees & a young yet developing Adrian O’Connor put Glenbeigh/Glencar 0-3 to 0-2 ahead by the halfway mark of the opening half. Jonathan O’Sullivan & Cathal Moriarty both notched up superb scores on the turn from play to extend Milltown/Castlemaine’s lead prior to the half time interval.
Glenbeigh/Glencar were back on level terms soon after the interval when firstly Caolim Teahan followed by a Tommy Cahill free had matters tied up at 0-5 to 0-5 on 35 minutes.
Jonathan O’Sullivan who kicked 0-7 all day and was fully tuned in proved very hard to mark as a hugely talented footballer & never missed the target all afternoon. Jonathan’s scores along with superbly executed efforts from a hugely impressive Kieran O’Carroll who landed a beauty late on & Jerome Flynn who landed the clincher seen the visitors advance to a Mid Kerry Senior Football Championship meeting with Laune Rangers on Sunday, December 1st.

THERE are advanced plans to host a festival in early 2020 to mark Chinese New Year, while there are aims to hold a large outdoor music festival at the racecourse in Ballybeggan.
This was revealed by Managing Consultant with Tralee Chamber Alliance, Ken Tobin, at the launch of the Action Plan to Developing Tourism in Tralee on Monday in Ballyseede Castle Hotel.
Minister of State for Sport and Tourism, Brendan Griffin attended the launch with members of Tralee Chamber Alliance and other tourism interests.
Continued below…
In his address, Mr Tobin said the tourism team in the Chamber is currently working on organising a festival to coincide with Chinese New Year on Saturday, January 25, 2020.
“We are hopeful of a favourable outcome to our funding application in the coming days. Our plans are already at an advanced stage and this Festival is being developed as part of a strategy we are working on with our tourism partners in Fáilte Ireland and Kerry County Council, to make Tralee Ireland’s first ‘China-friendly’ tourism town,” said Mr Tobin.
Also, with financial support and backing, he said they will be in a position to make a series of announcements in the coming weeks, including plans to grow the National Circus Festival and the Kingdom County Fair.

A WOMAN in Tralee had a substantial amount of money taken from her account after being targeted by fraudsters last week.
The victim received a text message from someone purporting to be her bank on November 12, telling her to update her personal details.
She logged in through the link on the message and was told to update her PIN number. She tried to do so and was told she was logged out.

A short time later, she was contacted by her bank asking her did she make a large transaction of money to a foreign account. The fraudsters had transferred a large amount of money
Tralee Gardaí are advising the public that their bank will never text you or call you asking for personal details or PIN number.
Today, An Garda Siochana and FraudSMART issued information to alert the public to an ongoing Frauds enabled via Text messages, Fake Loans websites, Advance Fee Fraud and Invoice Re-direct Fraud.
It is particularly important that the public are alerted to potential frauds as we enter the Christmas period.
Consumers urged to be extremely cautious around Text and Online Loan scams which are on the rise before Christmas.
Detective Chief Superintendent Patrick Lordan of the Garda National Economic Crime Bureau (GNECB) this morning said that Gardaí were concerned at the growing number of new scams that are arising and the particular targeting of consumers as Christmas approaches.
An Garda Síochána at GNECB and BPFI are advising consumers to be on the alert to text message, email or telephone call scams in which victims receive a text/email or call appearing to be from their bank asking them to for PERSONAL DETAILS or SECURITY INFORMATION designed to get unlawful access to bank accounts.
The text, email or telephone call will instruct the individual to go to a website or make a phone call to a specified number, after which personal information will be sought. To prompt urgent action by the victim the fraudster will create a fear that if the customer does not take immediate action their account will be compromised.
What to do: If a member of the public receives UNSOLICITED text messages, emails or telephone calls from their bank looking for this information, they must contact their bank and check the validity of the request and the security of the funds in their account.
Do not use links received in the text or email to contact the bank and do not use telephone numbers supplied. Look up the number of the bank independently and contact them if there are any concerns.
Online Loans SCAM
An Garda Siochana, BPFI and the Central Bank of Ireland wish to alert the Public to websites unlawfully offering loans online to the public in an Advance Fee Fraud.
As we enter the Christmas period many people will be under financial pressure. These unlawful websites will be looking to take advantage of financially vulnerable people.
The websites offer loans online. Within minutes of making an online application for a loan, the applicant will be immediately contacted and will be informed that their loan application is successful.
They will then be asked to pay a fee in advance of the loan being issued. This is a ‘Scam’, no loan will be issued and the customer loses the fee they have paid in advance.
What to do: Check the register of authorised firms on the Central Bank of Ireland (Central Bank) website to determine if the website/company is registered as a Retail Credit Firm or Money Lender.
The register of authorised firms can be accessed at http://registers.centralbank.ie/. If the website/company that is offering loans is not listed, DO NOT apply for a loan on that website or to that company.
You can report the matter to the Central Bank: details contained at https://www.centralbank.ie/regulation/how-we-regulate/authorisation/unauthorised-firms
Online Fraud Advance Fee Fraud / Theft
Gardaí wish to advise the public to be wary about online purchases or sales in the Christmas period, particularly when the product is considerably under market value or is being offered for sale via an unsolicited email, text or phone call.
BUYING a product – The public must be wary of a product being offered for sale under the market value, by persons unknown who are seeking payment in advance. In many cases there will be photographs of the product which have been taken from other legitimate websites, the product will be offered for sale and payment will be sought in advance and the product will not be delivered.
Selling a product – If selling a product, ensure the purchaser is genuine before transporting the product prior to payment. The fraudster will frequently send an email or text purporting to be from a bank or a payment service such as Paypal confirming that the payment has been made, such communications will often be fake. The fake communication is designed to prompt the seller to dispatch the product before the payment actually hits their account.
If in doubt do not complete the purchase or the sale. Check with your bank or with the Payment Service to confirm the payment is correct.
What to do: Use online retailers with good reputations such as high street shops or established online stores. Check out the information on the site to ensure it is genuine. Use the same credit card for all online purchases: easy to cancel if something goes wrong! If the deal sounds like it is too good to be true it probably is!!
Invoice RE-Direct Fraud
Invoice Re-Direct Fraud is a method of targeting a company by creating a fake invoice or identifying a genuine invoice in the name of a supplier with whom the target company is doing business. The invoice is sent to the target company asking for the payment for the product or service to be paid into an account controlled by the fraudster. This is causing considerable losses to business throughout the country.
What to do: If a supplier asks for payment to a new account, a red flag should be raised. Contact the supplier by telephone to check if the requested change of account is correct. Do reply to an email or use the contact information supplied in the email Check all emails carefully, to ensure it is coming from a genuine source. Make all relevant employees aware of this Fraud type.

Gardaí at the Garda National Economic Crime Bureau (GNECB) wish to advise that the focus of the criminals in this latest scam is to obtain personal information that will allow them to steal money from bank accounts. Detective Chief Superintendent Patrick Lordan, GNECB stated that ‘banks and other financial entities will never make unsolicited contact with individuals asking for personal details, account numbers, 4-digit pin number or passwords.” He warned ‘that people receiving unsolicited communications looking for these personal details should not reply to text messages, emails or other communications. They should contact their bank independently to check on the validity of the communications they have received before taking any action’.
Niamh Davenport, who leads the BPFI FraudSMART programme, offers the following advice to consumers: “Always be wary of any unexpected calls or texts which appear to be your bank especially those asking for personal details or payments. Your bank will never ask for your personal information so never give your financial or personal information in order to release money, refund fees, or access to your computer. Fraudsters are very convincing but don’t be afraid to take the time to make the relevant checks. The scammer will try to rush you, but this is all designed to panic you into doing something you wouldn’t otherwise do.”

AN LGBT community group will host an event next Saturday night featuring some great music from a local musician.
Members of ‘ScEEN in Kerry’ an LGBT community group have come together to tackle a lack of LGBT Visibility in Kerry.
Recent research administered by the HSE, KDYS and Listowel Family Resource centre ‘a living perspective of LGBT+ in Kerry’ reported that individuals feel more content within themselves when they come out, however, they can also feel more challenges living in more rural areas than urban life.
Continued below…
The research indicates that many may feel anxious and socially isolated because there’s nowhere to go in which to feel fully themselves with other people from the LGBT community.
The absence of LGBT collective social spaces pushes many to move from their homes to other cities around the country.
ScEEN in Kerry is a clear response to the study. The ScEEN in Kerry group feel energised to bring the LGBT+ community together by creating more social platforms throughout the years ahead.
To finish the end of the year a Christmas social event will be held on Saturday, November 23 at the Ashe Hotel, Tralee from 8pm to 12pm. It’s inclusive to all members of the LGBT+ community in Kerry and their mates and family.

Alan Cantwell on Garvey’s Tralee Warriors win on the road on Saturday night…
Garvey’s Tralee Warriors 87
Maree 67
Garvey’s Tralee Warriors remain top of the Super League table after an 87-67 win away to Maree in Oranmore on Saturday night.
In addition to the win, it was another night where results also went the way of the reigning champions with a number of their title rivals namely; Templeogue, UCD Marian and Killester all beaten in their respective fixtures.
Eoin Rockall opened the scoring for Maree but unfortunately for the Galway side it was the one and only time they led in the entire game.
Continued below…
The Warriors reaction was to fire in 17 unanswered points with two scores each from Ivan Bogdanovic, Eoin Quigley and Jonathan Lawton, one from Paul Dick and a three from Daniel Jokubaitis.
Maree had to respond and did with a three from Spainish Bosman Orioles Balsells Plaza and scores from John Burke, American Darin Johnson and Paul Freeman to cut the gap to 5.
However Darragh O’Hanlon got a look at the basket to fire in a three and two from the line from Keith Jumper gave the Warriors a 22-12 lead at the end of the first.
Paul Freeman hit two early baskets for Maree in the second but for every score the hosts could manage the Warriors were replying in kind.
Four scores from Bogdanovic along with three from Lawton began to put more daylight between the sides. Johnson was trying his best to keep the Warriors honest but even when Stephen Commins hit a three the Warriors lead was still in double figures.
Two big threes from Quigley and Paul Dick kept Maree at bay despite two from John Burke and one from Johnson late on left the score at the long break 51-34 to the Warriors.
The pace of the game slowed noticeably in the third and in an evenly contested 10 minutes the sides went score for score throughout.
Close range efforts from Lawton and Quigley cancelled out scores from Johnson, Burke and Charlie Crowley and when Jokubaitis landed his second three the Warriors eased 18 ahead.
Johnson, Freeman and Balsells cut the lead to 12 but Quigley again was on hand to step to the basket and when O’Hanlon and Jokubaitis hit four from four from the line, the reigning champions were 67-49 ahead as the sides turned for home.
Maree are a strong fourth quarter team and are notorious for never giving up but any hopes they had of replicating their recent upset win over Templeogue were undone by a hat trick of three pointers from Rap Buivydas and two identical arced efforts from Quigley early in the final quarter.
Rockall with an inside and outside score, Commins and Johnson continued to chip away at the Warriors lead but Bogdanovic and Quigley helped the visitors push out to a 24-point lead.
Freeman who was a handful inside throughout for Maree helped himself to six point late on but Pa McCarthy and yet another from the fit again Eoin Quigley sealed a 87-67 win in the end.
Scorers:
Maree Darin Johnson 20, Paul Freeman 16, John Burke 8
Warriors Eoin Quigley 21, Ivan Bogdanovic 16, Jonathan Lawton 13
• The win keeps the Warriors on top of the Super League table by virtue of points difference over DBS Éanna, Coughlan C&S Neptune and Belfast Star although Éanna and Neptune both have games in hand.
The Warriors travel to the capital next Saturday night to take on the only team without a win in Super League – Abbey Seals Dublin Lions. Tip off in Coláiste Bríde in Clondalkin is 7.30pm.
