Another Successful Heritage Weekend At Churchill Forge

.
The children’s tractor run was a popular addition this year.

HERITAGE weekend was celebrated in style at the Churchill Forge and Museum on Saturday & Sunday last.

Always a popular event with the local community and visitors this years event exceeded all expectations, both with the numbers attending and the varied programme arranged that seemed to appeal to people of all ages.

On Saturday evening an exceptional array of beautifully maintained Classic Cars took part in the run which departed the Forge in Churchill travelling via Ardfert to Ballyheigue and returning to the Forge in Churchill where all involved were treated to snacks and refreshments.

.

On Sunday it was the turn of the tractors both vintage and modern, to provide an amazing spectacle of makes and models who travelled in convoy around the parish before returning to Churchill where the owners, drivers and the supporting teams sampled delicious burgers and refreshments.

The organisers expressed their sincere thanks to all who participated in these events, some travelling from Limerick, Cork and from all parts of the County.

“We were delighted this year that our association with Fenit RNLI facilitated collection points at Fenit, Ardfert and Ballyheigue. We express our sincere thanks to all who contributed generously to this very worthy charity,” said a spokesperson from the organising committee.

A most popular addition to this year programme was the children’s tractor fun run. Parents and children enjoyed the entertainment generated by this event.

The Dog Show was again an outstanding success. The proud owners were delighted to parade their beautifully groomed pets for all to enjoy. Many were presented with rosettes to acknowledge their outstanding efforts.

The Blacksmith displayed his amazing skills in metal work, fashioning many useful household implements and unique jewellery. Many of the younger generation who would not be familiar with the ancient skill of forging had a hands on experience of fashioning some metal products.

The thatcher gave a master class in another rare and ancient skill of thatching. Great interest was generated by this display as very few would have experienced something like this in their lifetime.

The butter maker also attracted a great audience as again many would not have experienced the art of butter making which was a feature in most farm house in times past.

Displays of ancient hand tools, morse code equipment, knitting, home cooking also generated much interest.

The Committee wish to sincerely thank so many people who attended and contributed to making Heritage Day a great success.

They also wish to thank all who organised and participated in the Car and Tractor runs. A special word of acknowledgement to the organising committee and stewards for a job well done.

Juvenile notes We were overwhelmed by the amount of people signing their children up for camp again this year. It has been great to have that bit of normality back. Shortly everyone will be returning to school and it will be back to the grindstone  with school work and home work. Remember it’s very important that your children have some outlet….team sports are great for them. It’s also great for us Moms and Dads as we also get to meet people after a long week and enjoy a chat and a cuppa during training.
Why not bring along some of your school friends and see if they will give team sport a go. Remember, everyone is welcome! And of course every week everyone gets their little treat after training for all their brilliant work, enthusiasm and just fantastic smiling faces .

Well done to last week’s “Player of the Week” Jessa Diggins who recently turned 4. Jessa had her mascot to support her today, her duck who was wearing his Kerry jersey, so so cute ..

We all can reflect on how united we have been as a community through the tough times over the years especially with the help of the Moran family. During lockdown , more than ever we saw and appreciated how strong a part of our Strand Road team and our greater community reaching out to help others.

Juvenile Academy

U5กฏs: A committed bunch of boys and girls were in attendance at training. Luckily the rain held off and we had a very enjoyable session focusing on movement with the ball and kicking skills. The session was capped off with roller ball (which the parents enjoyed as much as the kids!)

Paul Flynn has consistently listened to his coaches and showed improvement in all areas over the last few weeks, he put in another great training today to cement his player of the week status.

U7กฏs:  We had a great turn out in Ardfert today for our first under 7 blitz of the year. There was a lot of nervous bodies coming into it and that was just the coaches.
It went off brilliantly as we had 3 teams of 7 taking part in 4 games each.
It was very enjoyable, and as ever thanks to the coaches who helped out as well as the parents for bringing the kids out and staying to cheer on.

U9’s: We played 3 games each versus Cromane and played very well in all of them. We had some debutants who were very impressive and there were some great goals scored in all games. Special mention to Darragh Flahive who was outstanding and got player of the week for his performance. Thanks to our referees for helping on the day.

U8 & 10 Girls: The under 10 and under 8 girls welcomed John Mitchells to St Pats on Saturday evening for their return fixture. Both matches were very close and well matched with all the girls getting a lot of time on the ball and growing in confidence. Thanks to coach Nigel for getting great structure into the under 10s with tactical and positional awareness really improving. This was rewarded by great point and goal scoring all round.

Very well done to all our under 8s with senior players Emma Gilbride and Mary- Kate OกฏShea leading by example and encouraging their new teammates, for their first ever matches. All the girls are really growing in confidence and enjoying learning the skills in match play. Well done to all!!

U11กฏs: Our u11 side had two matches this week, a Go game last Thursday evening against Gneeveguilla and a challenge game on Sunday morning against the u12 girls team.

The Go game was our second match in phase 2 of the Lee Strand Co League Go Games. Due to injuries, and family holidays, we were missing some of our most experienced footballers players including Eddie, Stephen, Rian, Jake, Paddy and Gearจฎid. We certainly missed those players but we were able to field a competitive side against a good team and put on an entertaining game for the spectators. The players were fairly matched individually and there were some good contests all over the pitch but the away side played better as a team and found scores easier to come by. St Pats had a good share of possession but found the away side closed down space quickly and challenged aggressively for the ball. The away team are to be commended for their teamwork, they moved and passed quickly to their teammates, and defended better as a unit, and that was the main difference between the sides. Fortunately, these are areas that can be improved on, as there is no shortage of talent in the group, and these matches are an invaluable learning experience for our players. There were some excellent performances on the day from Jace, James, Darragh, Hugh, Ashling and Alannah.

We were back at St Pats on Sunday morning for our challenge game against the u12 girls. It was a very enjoyable game played in a good spirit. The girls passed and tackled very well and there were some great performances from Sarah, Aimee, Lainey, and Lilly. For the boys Rylan, Jace, Sean, James, Tommy, Hugh, and Ethan impressed the coaches with their work rate. There was an improvement in the passing and speed of movement from all players and this is something we will continue to work on in training. At home the players should continue to practice using the solo and overhead catch.

The Go games resume this Thursday away to Scartaglin at 6.30pm followed by training on Sunday at 12pm at St Patกฏs club grounds in Blennerville V92 RH98.

A reminder to parents that all players are to have a gum shield and to wear it at matches and training and to register on www.foireann.ie

U12 Girls: A challenge Derby match against the boys under 11กฏs with senior players from under 10กฏs came up to join the under 12กฏs girls today.

We had 15 girls versus the boys team, who played with fantastic football skills and technique and every girl managed to gain possession of the ball during the game.

Sofira played fantastic in goals during the first half and followed as a midfielder in the second half along with her peers, Lily, Eve and Alannah.

We had great defence from Lily, Amy, Kaela and Aisling for the first half, followed by Aoife, Chloe, Eve, Saorlaith and Tara in the second half.

We also had fantastic forwards with Lainey, Aisling, Kaela, Niamh, Tara, Keelin and Sarah throughout the match, showing their best as full forwards with loads of scoring.

We had a mighty game with mighty craic with all the children from the club being involved in fun friendly environment, mind you it did get serious at some points, where kids demonstrated their technique, where they put the other team under pressure.

All the hard work paid off as they did very well today.

Well done to the girls team:

Aisling, Alannah, Amy, Aoife, Eve, Chloe, Kaela, Keelin, Lainey, Lily, Niamh, Sofira, Saorlaith, Sarah and Tara.

Training continues next Sunday morning at 10:30am.

U13กฏs: Duagh 2-13 v St Pats 3-07

Having played with a strong wind in the first half, we settled very slowly and were behind at half time on a score of 1-07 v 0-03.  Thanks to two opportunist goals from Luke Passway, we gave ourselves a fighting chance and tried gallantly to the end when Jack Costello found the net.  However Duagh scored from a late free to put the issues beyond doubt.  Well done to everyone on a fine display of courage and skill and no doubt we will learn from this and move on to the next match.

Squad B Leen (Capt), L O’Connor, J Bowler, L Passway, D & J Flahive, J & H Costello, C Sheehan, G Scollard, R Culloo, B O’Leary, D Murphy, F Carmody & J Daly

U15กฏs: We trained last Wednesday evening in preparation for our next match in the U15 Kellihers Garage Central Region competition where we will be away to Annascaul/Lispole this Wednesday at 7pm. We will confirm the venue closer to the day.

U16 Girls: Training continues twice weekly on the usual days and times.

Ballymac GAA first Ever Summer Camp was a great success!

,

The weather was good and the children were great! All went very well. The coaches were fantastic. The Ballymac future stars had a great few days.  On Friday Brian Curran & Dale Farm called with ice cream  for all the children! What a kind thing to do. Thank you Brian.

Emma Sweeney surprised the kids with two balls one signed by the Kerry Senior Men’s team and one signed by the Senior Kerry Ladies! (Thanks Kieran Savage for that one)  The balls were raffled and will be cherished by the winners!

Thank you to all our beautiful future stars, the parents who were so supportive, Emma and her wonderful team of Ballymac coaches: Sean Savage, Darragh Regan, Eve Creedon, Kate O’Connor, Ciaran Brosnan, Emily O’Brien, Adam Sheehy, and Darragh Sweeney. Thank you all, you were brilliant!

A big Thank you from all of us to Mike Quirke of Office & Ink for sponsoring our first ever camp. We appreciate the support, Mike.

Academy.
On Sunday morning last Our U7s travelled to Connolly Park to play Austin Stacks in their first game! It was so exciting for all our kids to play in the Ballymac Colours! It was a wonderful morning and Thanks to our coaches and parents who travelled and a big thank you to all the children and to Austin Stacks for a great welcome.
The U6s continued training as normal in our main pitch. Another lovely Sunday morning session with our under U6’s this week with nearly 30 of our youngest players. The children’s ball handling skills are improving week on week and they love showing off all the skills they’ve been practicing at home. As the squad has shown such brilliant team working, this week we had our first attempt at a first proper mini-game, a huge sign of progress! We look forward to integrating games more into our practice in the coming weeks.

U11 Blue Team Match Report 12th August – Home game vs Austin Stacks

We welcomed Austin Stacks to Ballymac for Round 4 of the u11 County Football Go Games, on Thursday 12th August.

We lined out without two of our key players, Daniel and Adrian who were on well deserved holidays.

The last time we faced Stacks they played with a full-strength A team consisting of the best u10s and u11s.

This time around the mixed both their teams.  Our boys started very well, with Tadhg scoring 1-1 in the first few minutes , thanks to a lovely assist from Ciarán.

Meanwhile, Harvey Leen was everywhere in the full back line and cleared everything that came his way. He was ably assisted by Gearoid Joy, Diarmuid Trant and Gearoid O’Connor.

Tadhg chipped in with an outstanding point from the sideline, like Maurice Fitzgerald all those years ago, before Ciarán added a goal of his own.

Ballymac were dominant in this period and before the water break Gearoid O’Connor added another goal that was superbly finished and Tadhg added another goal.  Tadhg has been in superb scoring form in the last few games.

The very impressive Danny Lane moved in the forwards and scored 3 goals in quick succession, with some sublime play.  Stacks added a number of points to give them the lead at half-time.

Our boys legs were starting to tire, having had 3 great days at the Ballymac Summercamp and we again had no subs bench to call on to rest players.

However, all the boys battled to the end and never stopped working for each other.  Eric Quirke was superb in a variety of positions and had the beating of their talisman when he marked him early in the game.  Diarmuid Trant stuck his man like glue and won numerous balls throughout the game.  Gearoid Joy, playing with an injured arm, put in another storming performance. This guy is as hard as nails and has one of the finest kicks around.  Patrick Leen was a constant threat and made clever runs for balls all throughout the game. Jack Lynch had to come off injured near the end of the game but had put in a great showing making some great saves.  Jamie Harrington deputised for Jack in goals and didn’t put a foot wrong with some excellent kickouts. This was Jamie’s first game playing in the backs and he was a natural in the position.  Evan Horgan again, like all his team mates worked from start to finish.

For me this was their most impressive performance to date because even with the odds stacked against them, with tired legs, missing key players, no subs and playing a Stacks A team for three quarters of the game, they never stopped working. When the chips are down this team comes out fighting and that bodes very well for this great bunch of boys.

Thanks to Niall Collins, who was excellent as referee on the night and kept the game flowing.

U13 Boys
Our Gold team were first in action on a wet and windy Saturday evening when they travelled west to Gallerus to take on An Ghaeltacht.

The home side made full use of the elements in the first half to build up a big half time lead, our Boys tried their hardest to fight their way back into the game in the second half but a strong defensive unit kept them at bay. Full credit to the Lads for battling to the end,but the West Kerry team ran out deserving winners in the end.

On Sunday evening the Blue team made the short journey to play Na Gaeil in Round 4 of the Co League.

Our Boys started the stronger and were well in control at the end of the first quarter, However, our intensity dropped in the second quarter which saw Na Gaeil close the gap to six points at half time.

The second half was much more even with the home side coming more into the game, which meant our defence was under a lot of pressure.

Despite Na Gaeil pressing hard in the last quarter we managed to hold out for a 5-6 to 3-6 victory.

Division 4 Donal Curtain Cup

Monday 9th August 2021

Ballymac 3-11           Dingle 0-07

We were rusty after 2 weeks without a game, however in that time we put in some strong training sessions in working on our fitness and running game. The game started slow but we kept moving on and Emma Sweeney put us on the scoreboard with a well taken point. We got the measure of their kick out strategy which stood to us going forward. Caoimhe Carroll had a strong game with massive turnovers given the girls around her great confidence.  It was great to have our captain Una Kerins back in her rightful spot of centre back. We ran out comfortable winners in this game but a lot of our players put in great performances. Big scores on the night came from Eve Creedon and Ellie McElligott. The entire panel got a good run out, making picking the team a hard job for management. Once again it was great to play in front of our loyal supporters.

The final of this competition will be played on Monday 23rd August.

Wednesday 4th August 2021

Kilcummin 2-09         Ballymac 0-08

This game was a real close game for the most part and served up a great spectacle to the supporters. Ballymac had a bare panel of 15 on the night with Holidays and Injuries taking their toll on the squad. This meant there were no subs which would ultimately be the difference.

At the first water break it was 1 point a piece with the ball travelling from one end of the pitch to the other but the defences on both teams were on top form.

In the second quarter Ballymac had two goal scoring opportunities but the Kilcummin defence remained defiant and held strong and both teams finished out the half kicking just two points from play leaving the half time score tied.

Half time score Ballymac 0-03 Kilcummin 0-03

In the third quarter Kilcummin slipped in for two well deserved goals.

Ballymac went hunting for a goal but their efforts were saved on numerous occasions by an excellent Kilcummin defence. To their credit Ballymac kept kicking points and kept the scoreboard ticking over but it was not to be on this occasion.

Final score Kilcummin 2-09 Ballymac 0-08

Scorers:

Michelle O’Connor 04 points

Emily Heffernan    02 Points

Molly O’Connor      01 Point

County League

Wednesday 11th August 2021

Ballymac 3-09            Ballyduff 3-08

The Girls played Ballyduff in Ballymac on Wednesday evening in the County League.

These sides met earlier in the year in the North Kerry League competition where Ballyduff had the upper hand winning that game.

Ballymac started well kicking two points, the first from Aoibheann Sheehan cutting in from the left hand side and slotting over the bar, this was quickly followed up by Emily Heffernan slotting over a point from some good build up play.

At the first water break it was Ballymac 0:02 to no score.

The girls played some great attacking football and could have had a few goals were it not for Ballyduff’s Goalkeeper who stopped some great goal scoring opportunities on the goal line. Ballymac kicked two further points from Molly O’Connor & Michelle O’Connor.

Against the run of play a long range effort perfectly measured from Ballyduff dropped over the defensive line of Ballymac for a goal and they followed this by kicking a further three points from frees giving them the lead at half time.

Half Time score Ballyduff 1:03 Ballymac 0:04

Trailing by two points the girls set about the task at hand and some good build up play from Emily Heffernan offloaded to Aideen Healy who coolly netted Ballymac’s first goal and she quickly followed this up with a point from play. Emily Heffernan who was instrumental in the first goal took the ball on in another attack and finished for Ballymac’s second goal of the night, followed quickly by a well taken point from Katie Turner.

Ballyduff were not finished yet and slotted in a goal and three points in this period.

Score at the second water break was tied at Ballymac 2:06 Ballyduff 2:06

Into the final quarter it was nip and tuck from both teams, moving to corner forward Alice Savage made an immediate impact, Alice slotted over a point for the home side followed by two further points from Emily Heffernan and a decisive goal from Molly O’ Connor. These scores were vital as Ballyduff struck for 1:02 during this period leaving the full time score with just the narrowest of margins for the Ballymac Win.

Final Score Ballymac 3:09 Ballyduff 3:08

While the report is thus far about scores the victory was a credit to the team as a whole and mention has to go to the Ballymac defensive play of Goalkeeper Grace Kelly and backs Sorcha Healy, Alice Savage, Sinead Scanlon and Abigail Geary who had a tremendous game and the hard work of midfielders Molly and Michelle O’Connor covering every blade of grass on the night.

Scores came from seven different players and these players will gain the confidence to continue their scoring in the games ahead.

Scorers

Emily Heffernan 1-03

Molly O’Connor 1-01

Aideen Healy 1:01

Michelle O’Connor 0-01

Alice Savage 0-01

Katie Turner 0-01

Aoibheann Sheehan 0-01

Supporters on the night were treated to a thrilling game of football played in an open style with the lead changing hands at each interval. This is Ballymac’s first win in the county league and the team’s next fixture is away to Rathmore.

Record Numbers at Very Successful Tralee Parnells Cúl Camp:

Our week of daily Cúl Camp training sessions at Caherslee GAA grounds saw record attendances with over 100 youngsters registered.  This is a great omen for the ongoing growth and development of camogie and hurling in our club and in the greater Tralee area. Congratulations and well done to the GDAs Colm, Giles and all the coaches for running another excellent camp.

Under 7s:

On Tuesday evening Tralee Parnells under 7’s travelled to Causeway the home parish of our coach Finbarr Canty. The team put on a strong and fantastic display of skills and determination and there were some

Under 9 Boys:

Well done to these group of lads, they played Causeway Tuesday evening, definitely gave a fantastic account of themselves, brilliant skills produced, working as a team, we made four teams, all having a game with the hosting team, the improvement in all skills was plain to be seen, very proud coaches.

Under 11 Boys:

A round of applause for our newest player of the week: Mattie Quill, Congratulations Mattie keep up the good work.

A special thanks to the parents, families and friends who support us at all matches, we appreciate all the support, Come on Parnells.

Super all round performance Saturday by our team who played Ballyduff , ably captained by Alex O’Flaherty, we were assisted today by four younger players a special thanks to Conor, Dara, Micheal & Ryan for their help.  Well done all.  Our other U11 team played St. Brendans, it was a great performance, they battled hard, fought for every score and showed pride in their jersey, ably led by Thomas Murphy, team captain. These tough games are what improve us.

Under 13 Boys Hurling:

Tralee Parnells played the final round of the Division 1 U13 County Under League Tuesday evening away to Ballyduff. The holidays season once again impacted on numbers with Parnells having the bare 15 players available. While much of the game was played between the two 45s, the home team lead from early on and dominated the first half scoring. Despite a promising 3rd quarter rally from Parnells, the home team pulled away in the final quarter with a flurry of goals  The Final score was Ballyduff 10-09 Tralee Parnells 3-5. The boys fought all the way to the end and never gave in.

Under 14 Kerry Camogie:

Absolutely fantastic win for Kerry U14s Sunday v Laois final score 9-5 to 4-3. So proud of the Kerry team  and especially our Tralee Parnells players.

Under 14 Kerry Hurlers:

Well done to our U14s that represented Kerry Saturday vs Clare in Rathmore. The Green and Gold team had a great 2 point win. Well done to Tomas O’Connell, Cian Harris, Will Somers, Dan Maloney, Eoghan Costello and Liam O’Connell.

Under 15 Boys Hurling:

Tralee Parnells U15s completed their 2021 Feile campaign with a semi-final loss to St. Brendans in Ardfert last Thursday evening. As with many of their matches this year, the team was short a number of regulars, but the team that lined out did themselves proud. There was a strong wind blowing straight down the pitch and it favoured St. Brendans in the first half. This enabled them to race into an early lead, despite some great defending from the Parnells lads. The margin at half time could have been much greater only for some great hooking and blocking and some good goalkeeping by Cian Harris. Dan Maloney fulfilled his sweeper role excellently, making some important interceptions and making himself available for puck-outs. Despite the strong breeze, the Parnells forwards took their chances when they came and some great interplay led to some lovely points from play, notably from Tomas O’Connell and Eoghan Costello. The second half was far from one-way traffic and again the defensive effort was excellent, with some outstanding work by Sean Michael Redican, Cian Hennessy  and Conor Dennehy. The boys took their chances when they came, led by captain fantastic Andrew Kerins, but unfortunately the goal they deserved just wouldn’t come. A strong St. Brendans side did keep the scoreboard ticking over and pulled away in the end, but they knew they had been in a game. This is a very young side, with over half the team that lined out still U14, which bodes very well for next year. Final score: Tralee Parnells 0-10 St. Brendans 6-16

Under 16 Kerry Hurlers:

Well played Tralee Parnells hurlers Colm Brown and Rory Reen, losing out to Clare u16s by a single point Saturday morning in Rathkeale.

Minor Camogie County League:

Best of luck to Tralee Parnells minors who take on Causeway in Caherslee Monday on the County Camogie Minor League.

Kerry Minor Camogie:

Good to see the strong shift put in by the Parnells contingent against Meath in the All Ireland Minor Camogie B final at Crotta Sunday. Katie Dwyer was strong at full back, clearing ball after ball and always alert to any danger. Saoirse Maloney and Ilona Sheehan were busy in the forwards too as Kerry tried to close the gap on Meath. In a finely balanced first quarter there was nothing to separate the teams and the first water break the 3 points all scoreline showed it was anybody’s game at that point. Meath had very fit and mobile players and opened up a gap by half time.  However the undaunted home side worked very hard in the 3rd quarter and reeled it in to a 2 point gap at the 2nd water break.  However, the superior running and movement of the visitors proved too hard to stay with and it was Meath who secured the next few scores ended up winners.   No shortage of effort in the Kerry ranks though and they can look back at the game knowing they left it all out on the field on the day

Intermediate Hurling:

Good luck Tralee Parnells who play St Brendans Ardfert Tuesday in the County Intermediate.

Condolences:

Tralee Parnells Hurling and Camogie Club would like to express our very deepest sympathies to Danielle and Des Griffin and family on their bereavement.  RIP.

U8/U10 GIRLS
Saturday night saw the John Mitchel’s u8 and U10) girls teams travel to Blennerville to take on St Pats in a number of challenge games.
Both games turned out to be very competitive and beneficial to both teams, as they were able to transfer the skills, they are learning into match play. And this was definitely the case on Saturday night, with some excellent scores in the U10 game and a very competitive u8 game.
At u8, the heart and desire that was on display had to be seen to be believed, as the Mitchel’s girls went wholeheartedly for each ball, worked hard for each other and were a credit to the John Mitchel’s jersey.
Brooke, Aideen, Ava, Micaela, Siún, Aine, Clodagh and Peggy were all outstanding on the day and were cheered on by the parents who got a well-deserved spectacle. Special mention must go to Lucy for her excellent save at the end of the game.
In the u-10 game, there was some excellent passing moves and scores kicked by players, and what was refreshing to see was the lessons learned from previous games, and the work rate from all the players.
It was a tough challenge, but defensively, the team was very well organised, with Aisling organising the troops, assisted by our new signing Grace, Emma and Ava. At midfield, Caoimhe and Roisín were superb and worked really hard and up front we got some excellent scores from Maddison, Karolina and Eibhín.
Many thanks to St Pats for hosting us and to the parents for bringing the players to Blennerville. Training continues next Sunday morning at 10.15am.
Do not forget to fill out the return to play form before each session.

Under 14/16 girls

All newcomers welcome.
Do not forget to fill out the return to play form before each session.

UNDER 9 BOYS
John Mitchel’s U9 Boys training session got off to a damp start on Sunday Morning but it didn’t deter our Boys who in fairness got stuck in right from the off. We started practicing our skills as always & went quickly into 2 hotly contested games. It’s great to see players improving every week but we still need ye all to keep practicing at home!!
Next week see’s John Mitchel’s U9 Boys away to Currow for some Go Games parents will be contacted during the week with details until then keep on practicing!!!!
Do not forget to fill out the return to play form before each session.

Under 11 Boys
A good evening for games and some lovely football on display at our club grounds in Ballyseedy this evening where both of our u11s boys’ teams played against two very game Listry sides.
Whilst the strong wind played its part this evening, it didn’t deter the young footballers on the field. Some lovely point scoring and well taken goals from both sides made the games very enjoyable.
Notable mention to some of our under 9s whose attitude and determination was brilliant to see this evening and weren’t out of place when their chance came to take to the field
Huge thanks to Listry GAA for coming in to us and to our referees and also to Dan and Bubbles for setting up the pitches before throw in.
Well, done boys on a great display
Up the Mitchel’s 💚💛💚💛💚💛💚

UNDER 13 BOYS
A week off for our u14s game wise this week. Both teams are at home next Sunday to Keel\Listry in a top of the table clash for both. Throw in at 5.30pm and 7pm – all support welcome.
Training continues Tuesday and Thursday
Do not forget to fill out the return to play for before each session.

UNDER 17 Boys
Our U17s faced Na Gael in the Central League Final Monday Night at Strand Road, it what was a tough, physical and cagey game we came off defeated by two points after missed chances and long scoreless periods cost us. Fair play to our boys they have it everything and they dust themselves down and get ready for Rathmore in the County League Semi Final Monday night at Rathmore.
Do not forget     to fill out the return to play form before each session.

SENIOR LADIES
We take a break from training on Monday to give the ladies a chance to recover from injuries. We train again on Thursday at 7.30pm in preparation for the north Kerry league which begins in September
Anyone interested in joining should come along and give it a go. If you are 16 and over, you are more than welcome to join. Great way to meet new people and keep active also.
Do not forget to fill out the return to play form before each session.

SENIOR MEN
The senior men faced Rathmore on Saturday at 2pm in Fitzgeralds stadium in a relegation battle on a very wet and windy day. It was neck and neck for scoring in the first quarter which had the score 1-2 to 1-4 before the first water break a penalty from James Duggan followed by a point from Alan O Donoghue. Just before the whistle another goal from Rathmore to make the half time score 2-8 to 1-4 at half time. Big change at the second water after half time left the score line at 1-7 to 3-12 to Rathmore leaving Mitchel’s well beaten and chasing the game.
The Rathmore side were not taking the foot off the gas and kept adding to the tally leaving the final score Rathmore 5-16 John Mitchel’s 1-10. Hard luck lads just not our day.
Training continues Tuesday and Friday evening.
Do not forget to fill out the return to play form before each session.

TWENTY-ONE White-Tailed (Sea) Eagle chicks were re-introduced to Ireland this weekend with some let free in Killarney National Park.

Staff of the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) at the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage, had been looking after the eagles since they came to Ireland from Norway on June 25th of this year.

The twenty-one Norwegian-born Eagle chicks were released into the wild at the four Munster sites – on the Shannon Estuary, Lough Derg, Waterford and in Killarney National Park. It is hoped they will bolster Ireland’s existing White-Tailed Eagle population.

The chicks have been kept in purpose-built enclosures at the four locations while they grew, matured, and developed the feathers and muscles necessary for flight.

They were carefully monitored and tagged by NPWS staff leading the collaborative reintroduction programme, which began in 2007. The satellite tags will allow the project to monitor their progress and their integration into the existing Irish breeding population

Their release is part of the second phase of the highly successful project to reintroduce this magnificent, iconic bird back to Irish skies. Once a conspicuous part of Ireland’s landscape, they were driven to extinction by human persecution here in the late Nineteenth Century, a development which the Programme seeks to reverse.
