Development League Division 2

Senior Development League
Div 2 Round 3
Ballymacelligott Spa

This Round 3 game was played in Ballymacelligott on Saturday evening the 6th of May.
Prior to the game, a minute’s silence was observed for the late Ellen Clifford. We extend our deepest sympathy to the Clifford and O’Shea Families. We are thinking especially of Ellen’s brother Tom who is a selector with our B team.

After fifteen minutes, Ballymac scored 2-06 and Spa failed to score. Points from Diarmuid Galvin and Michael Herlihy, a goal and a point from Conor Brick, and a goal and three points from Maurice O’Connell gave Ballymac a good cushion going into the second quarter of the first half.

Spa dominated the second quarter of the first half and scored four points to Ballymac one from the boot of Michael Herlihy.

The second half saw Ballymac up the pace and Maurice O’Connell added a point and two more goals. Conor Brick, Skye Lynch, and Brian Cassidy got two more points to give the final score; Ballymac 4-11 to Spa 0-5.

It was good to see Cian Godley come on late in the second half having recovered from an injury earlier in the season. Players that impressed for Ballymac were: Ciaran Brosnan, Diarmuid Galvin, and Eoin Creedon in the backs as well as Cathal Culloty, Maurice O’Connell, and Conor Brick.

Minor Boys

Blue Team

An Gaeltacht v Ballymac – Central Region First Round – Division 1B

Our Minor team played in the first round of the Central Region First Round – Division 1B in glorious conditions in Gallarus on Monday Evening.

Ballymac had a bright opening with a flurry of points playing some stylish and effective football at times. This was especially impressive as we had only 16 players and the conditions were on the humid side. At Half Time, Ballymac led on a scoreline of 2-7 to 0-9.

In the second half, Ballymac continued to play some nice football with some great scores with worthwhile contributions from all 16 players in attendance. Our target man, Luke Griffin got a vital goal in the second half which put the game out of the host’s reach.

Ballymac took home the win on a final scoreline of Ballymac 3-13 An Gaeltacht 1-14. The lads went for a well-earned dip in the sea after the game on Ballinrannig Beach.

Thanks must go to the An Gaeltacht club who brought forward the time to 5pm from 7pm which helped with the travel arrangements.

Micheal Savage (0-7) Luke Griffin (2-1) Jack Joy (1-2) Mairtin McKivergan (0-2) Ciaran O’Connell (0-1)

This week’s fixture

Ballymac v Cromane on 10th May in Cromane @6pm

U16 Girls
Following a fantastic victory over Kerins O’Rahillys in Round 2 we welcomed Laune Rangers to Ballymac for the latest round of the Co League on Wednesday evening last.

The Killorglin side’s ability to score goals in the first half saw them lead at half time, they continued to dominate the second half to run out deserved winners, full credit to our Girls who never gave up, some resolute defending kept the Laune Rangers attack at bay on many occasions, while our forwards worked well to create and take some nice scores.

Our cause wasn’t helped due to players missing due to unavailability and injuries, hopefully we will have these players available for our next against Kilcummin.

Amongst the injured players are Katie Hobbert and Laura West who we wish a speedy recovery and we hope to see them back in a Ballymac jersey in the not too distant future.

U15 Boys

Feile

Ballymacelligott U15 team who played in the Féile on Friday evening we did not get off to a good start against Churchill who ended up winning 2g 6p to 5p we played better in the second game against Fingue and won 4.6 to 3p but it wasn’t enough to see us through to the semi-final stage there was some great individual performances and it was great to see the lads enjoying themselves despite the loss.

Churchill went on to beat Fingue in their second game and progressed to the semi-final stage.  We would like to congratulate Churchill who went on to beat Kenmare and become division 2 feile winners

We play Churchill again on Monday night next at home at 6.30 in the final game of the county league.

The semi-finals of this competition have been decided and we play Legion at home on Wed night at 7pm in the Div 2 section

The gold team then play Dr Crokes away at 6pm next Friday the 12th

U14 Girls:

On Thursday last we played Beaufort, after a bad start we played much better in the second half and put together some good moves. Well done girls.

Junior Primary School Blitz.

On Friday morning last over 170 pupils, from juniors to second class, from our four parish primary school descended on the pitch for some fun and games from 9am to 12pm. With lots of the boys and girls already playing football with the club it was a great opportunity for those kids that had not yet ventured on a Gaa pitch, to try out Gaelic football for the first time, and hopefully think of joining our academy.

A big thank you to the schools and staff for supporting the blitz and to our club coaches who were able to make themselves available to help out. Also, to our minor ladies and men’s team members who did a great job coaching and reffing games.

Mannix Property Services sponsored the blitz and a special thanks to Brendan and Amanda for showing their support to our club. Finally, thanks to the Coiste na nÓg team behind the scenes who did a great job organising the event. A second blitz will take place in June for pupils from 3rd to 6th class. Míle Buíochas.

U11 Boys

Our under 11 boys played Gneeveguilla last Thursday in the wet and rain. Thanks to Micheal Savage for refereeing the game.  We have a break in games now for 2 weeks but will continue with training on a Sunday morning at 11 am.

U9 Boys
U9 boys travelled to Cordal on Friday evening. After a very enjoyable school blitz in the morning the boys didn’t show any sign of tiredness playing 3 very competitive games. 16 boys lined out for Ballymac. All the boys are improving week on week. Thanks again to all the parents for driving.

Academy
This Sunday we had a great turnout at Academy in our main pitch

Huge thanks to all the coaches for their time and commitment each Sunday morning.

The club really appreciates it.

Our U5 Academy squad was 22 strong on Sunday morning as we welcomed more new kids to the team. Our players had great fun taking the next steps in their soloing journey, playing some very energetic games of “cops and robbers” and some target practice.

Our under 7 girls’ group are seeking some female volunteers to help out head coach Tj Casey with the girls. Two would be ideal in rotation. Please let TJ know on Sunday if you can help out.

Health & Wellbeing

Thanks to all who participated in Ballymac clean up over the last weekend. If you do have pickers still at home to be returned, please contact our healthy club on 0871811249. We would like to make this a more sustainable clean up effort going forward so all the pickers are required to make this happen

Mothers and Others has kicked off and will run every Tuesday at 6.15pm -7.30pm at our training pitch. New faces always welcome! Come along and try out some basic football skills. No experience necessary. Everyone welcome aged 25+ who are looking to learn some basic football skills and meet new friends
