A TRALEE man is coming back from Dublin with a nice amount of cash after his granddaughter appeared for him on Winning Streak last night.

Eighty-nine-year old Paddy Ryan from Garryruth was surrounded by his family in the audience as Rachel Fitzgerald did the hard work on stage with Marty Whelan and Sinead Kennedy and ended up winning €28,000 for ‘GaGa’, as she calls him.

Rachel from Duagh told Marty that Paddy has been buying scratch cards for the show since it began 25 years ago. His late wife Mai who died three years ago, also liked to play.

Rachel teaches at Tarbert Comprehensive and is married to Colm Fitzgerald, principal of Causeway Comprehensive.

In the audience were their two children, Ely and Asia. Paddy has 13 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren and another one on the way.

Rachel said hello to Paddy’s sister Helen, watching in Birmingham.

Rachel also got in a plug for her dad, Tony O’Donoghue, who has a car service business in Tralee and was also in the audience.
