U10 BOYS

On Wednesday last we played our first set of Go Games with Donncha, Rory, Darragh and Jack playing a great part in the wonderful performances of the teams. We had 2 teams with Luke, David, Cody and Paddy doing great work and getting on a lot of ball and using it well. Sean, Adam, Calvin, Ronan and Eamon played great games and tackled very well and got some great scores.

All the players played very well and showed fantastic skills, the tackles they made and passes they gave to each other showed that we have wonderful potential. Some of the scores we got were a joy to behold well done again everyone.

SENIOR COUNTY LEAGUE DIV 2

Our senior team were back in action on Saturday night in Ballyseedy where they face a wounded Beaufort team who were seeking to turn around our previous championship game a few weeks ago. Played in ideal conditions before a small crowd both teams were nervy as this was an extremely important game.

After a slow start Mitchel’s began to take control with a free from Michael Kelleher, followed by points from James Duggan and Alan O Donoghue pushed us on as our defence held strong, we went up by 6 points to 2 with Shane O Connor, Stephen O Mahoney adding a brace before Michael Kelleher added his second, Beaufort though weren’t here for a day out and Padraig O Sullivan found his form to leave the half time Mitchel’s 6 points Beaufort 4 points with Mitchel’s defending superbly through Jonathan O Halloran, Michael Walsh and Thomas Kearns.

The second half was a very cagey affair with both teams desperate to win this crucial fixture. Alan O Donoghue tormented the Beaufort defence and added 2 excellent fisted points to push Mitchel’s 4 clear. Beaufort were not giving up and a run of Padraig O Sullivan points kept them in touch but a point form Shane O Connor pushed us clear again before Beaufort picked up a bad pounce and hit for a goal from Ronan Ferris.

Mitchel’s however remained calm with our defence from Peter out not willing to concede and a Bryan Costello point pushed us ahead entering the last 5 minutes, in a tight finale 2 outstanding frees from Niall Sheehy left us 13 points to 1-8 up with the game in the balance. Mitchel’s produced probably the move of the match with minor Padraig White defying his youth to give a sublime pass to Shane O Connor who converted an excellent move to goal for Mitchel’s.

This sealed a very important victory for Mitchel’s with a final score 1-13 to Beaufort 1-8. Scorers Shane O Connor 1- 2, Alan O Donoghue 0-3, Niall Sheehy0-2, James Duggan 0-2, Michael Kelleher 0-2. Bryan Costello 0-1, Stephen O Mahoney 0-1. Well done to team and management on a crucial victory.

Our next county league game is away to Kenmare on the weekend of May 26th.

SENIOR LEAGUE DIV 5 GROUP B.

Our senior Div. 5 team played Ballylongford at home in Ballyseedy in sunny but very windy conditions making football difficult however this turned out to be a cracking encounter with both teams playing open exciting football.

Mitchel’s played against the strong wind in the first half and defended very well to keep Ballylongford to 5 points at half time with Mitchel’s adding 3 points from Wayne Duggan, Michael Walsh and Thomas Kearns.

The second half was end to end with the lead changing hands several times further points from Wayne Duggan, Eoin Barden, Padraig White, Michael Walsh kept us in touch coming into the last quarter Ballylongford hit us for a goal but to Mitchel’s credit they picked up again and a fine move saw us from Tyresse Flaherty.

We were now 2 points up heading into the last few minutes when Ballylongford hit a goal to take the lead, Mitchel’s however did not panic and worked the ball up field to Padraig White who coolly slotted over the equaliser. A fantastic game of football and credit to both teams. For such an exciting affair. Final score 2-11 Mitchel’s 2-11 Ballylongford. Our first point of the league campaign well done team and management. Next game away to Moyvane May 26th TBC.

U 16 LADIES

Our U 16 ladies travelled to Churchill last Tuesday evening to play our last round of the county league.

Short a good few regulars on the night our girls gave it all they could with Paula in goals and Erica and Lauren leading at the back Jenni at midfield and Linda and Sophie up front we gave a great performance on a cold windy evening in Churchill.

Many thanks to Churchill for a fine open sporting game. We have break now for the Junior Cert with training every Thursday at 7pm.

SENIOR LADIES

We played our 3rd county league game last Sunday at home to league leaders Dingle in wind swept Ballyseedy. Mitchel’s started well and an early Ava Buckley goal gave us a great start. Further points from Cliona Hayes after hard work by Anna Murphy and Sarah Kilgallen gave us a 1-2 to no score advantage.

Dingle however picked up the pace and opened their account with a point, good goalkeeping from Kayleigh Collins and staunch defence from Ashleigh Murphy, Tanya O Connor and Patriz Brosnan kept dingle at bay, the game ebbed and flowed and Dingle struck for a goal before the half time leaving them in front 1-5 to 1-4.

Mitchel’s made a few positional changes and Jade Powell moved to midfield facing into the strong breeze. The game was now nip and tuck with Dingle playing a very defensive game counter attacking when they could. Dingle pushed ahead with 3 points but Cliona kept us in touch with some fine free taking before Dingle got a second goal. Mitchel’s pushed hard to get an equaliser with Simi, Leona, Rachel and Tara working hard with Ciara, Lisa, Sophie and Jenni on tow.

Unfortunately, time ran out and Dingle won 2-10 to 1-9 absolutely great game and our very young warriors wore the jersey with pride and can keep their heads up, great to see Diana back today after a long injury.

Next game we are at home to Kerins O Rahillys in the county league on Sunday 19th May, Training continues on Thursdays at 7pm.
