KERRY Local Creative Youth Partnership is working with youth groups to create street side window galleries on the Mall in Tralee for Culture Night.
‘Beyond Imagination’ is a street side gallery of shop windows opening at 5pm on Friday, September 18 next.
Artist Véronique Gerber and designer Donnchadha O’Connor have been working with the local youth groups to produce three unique window displays like no other on the Mall. The street side gallery will run for seven days until Friday, September 25.

Kerry Local Creative Youth Partnership at Kerry ETB in association with Kerry County Council and shop owners including Alan O’Sullivan, The Mall Tavern, Brendan Culloty of Culloty’s Music Store, Bernard Cassidy of An Teach Beag public house, and Teresa Tangney of Tangney Opticians have made available their windows as street side galleries under a unique intervention for Culture Night.
Participating organisations in the project include the Meitheal early intervention practice model led by TUSLA at Shankill Family Resource Centre, and an afterschool group at St. Brigid’s Family Resource Centre at Hawley Park Tralee.
Participants also include a group of young adults led by ‘Inspired’, the community organisation developing education, employment and personal development skills for people with intellectual disabilities.
“We have explored many concepts in our workshops including design, construction, art, sound and lighting and it has been such fun,” said Véronique Gerber, artist and facilitator who worked with designer-maker Donnchadha O’Connor on the project.
Donnchadha had this to say; “What you will see on the night are windows into the wonderful imaginations of 28 young people who have worked really hard to create a streetscape like no other for Culture Night.”
Ann O’Dwyer, Director of Schools at Kerry ETB who is the lead partner in this Local Creative Youth Partnership Initiative stated; “Sincere congratulations to all the young people involved whose voices are so well represented in the designs on display. I would encourage everyone to take a trip down the Mall to see the work over the next week, it is uplifting and powerful”.
Culture Night 2020 starts at 5pm on Friday 18th September. It is co-ordinated by the Arts Office at Kerry County Council. ‘Beyond Imagination’ will run until the 25th September. Shop windows include The Mall Tavern, Culloty’s Music Store, Teach Beag, and Tangney Opticians on The Mall in Tralee.
