OUR SENIOR FOOTBALLERS IN MUNSTER FINAL

Heartiest congratulations to our seniors on their magnificent victory over the Cork champions. Bhí ár gcroíthe inár mbéil…but what a win! Best wishes to our heroes in their preparations for their next challenge….the quest for Munster glory v The Nire!

A good performance and victory will give our Dubh’s’Ómra men a passage to a Munster final! The 16th man will be there (wherever!) in amber’a’black and in full voice! Wouldn’t we love to get a close-up view of the Michael O’Connor Cup…Corn na Mumhan?

LAOCH AN CHLUICHE: Fair-play dár laoch óg, Gréagóir Ó hÓráin, a bhuaigh Gradam TG4 as ucht a chuid imeartha. Agus nár labhair sé go maith ar an teilifís?

AN UIDHIR

The Nire (An Uidhir) and Fourmilewater (Caisleán Cuanach) are two separate clubs in Co. Waterford. They have separate committees calling on the same pool of players.

The Nire is the football club in the area and Fourmilewater is the hurling club. Both teams play in The Mill Field, Ballymacarbry, nestled on the western side of the Comeragh Mountains. The tourist road, joining Clonmel and Dungarvan and known as The Vee, runs through the area.

The Nire is a half parish with Tuairín, while Fourmilewater is a half parish with Newcastle, Co. Tipperary. The Nire plays in yellow and blue.

The Nire footballers gained promotion to senior ranks when they won the Intermediate County Championship in 1983. They have been senior ever since and, in that time, they have won seven county senior football championship…1993, 1994, 1997, 2000, 2006, 2008, 2014.

They are the current county Under 21 champions (2014). The Déisemen’s win over a fancied Cratloe makes them a good team!
