MINOR REVIEW
Under the management team of Tony Silles, Martin Lowe, Willie Costello, Aidan O Connor and with dedication shown beyond belief from a 24 man panel who are now the Clubs future stars our season turned out to be a great success when reaching the finals of both our main competitions the County League and Central Region.

With having a continued commitment from these players which stared on 8th December 2015 and finished on 15th November 2016 enable football throughout the year which aided greatly in developing these players to the Senior ranks where five players made an instant impact this year at Senior level.

Great pride was taking by the whole club but especially amongst the Minor panel to have two of our own represent the County and to go on to win All Ireland medals with the Kerry Minors.

Both Micheál and Tomás are leading examples to the underage in the Club and their efforts to Minor Club football are greatly appreciated especially when they committed themselves to club games firstly when some of our games were rescheduled thus clashing with County training.

Season began on 8th December 2015 with indoor Core Training under the guidance of Club Senior player Vincent Horan, with seventeen players turning up the first night this set the platform for the season ahead.

With a move outdoors in mid January and despite some very adverse weather conditions there was a fine attendance from a very committed group of players.

After two games against Na Gaeil and Kerins O Rahilly’s in the Tralee Town League the serious stuff began with our first County League game away to Moyvane/Tarbert.

After a poor start we were 2 points up at half time and won by 0-15 to 2-7. Next up was an away game to Churchill on a chilly Sunday morning. Seven points up at half time we went further ahead before Churchill stormed into the game and drew level.

We eventually won 4-8 to 3-8. We were always in control in our game against John Mitchels winning by 1-14 to 0-9.

Desmond’s in Castleisland was our next game and again we got off to a poor start and were behind by 2-4 to 1-3 at the break. A lot of changes were made at half time and we went on to win by 2-10 to 2-8 after a thrilling game.

In the County League final we again played Churchill this time St Pats Blennerville was the venue.

Our opponents went into an early lead but we were 1-4 to 0-6 ahead at the break. In what was a very physical game Churchill just edged ahead in the 2nd half and we were very disappointed to lose a game we dominated in possession by 1-10 to 1-8.

The Central Region was the next competition. Desmond’s travelled to Ballymac and won a high scoring game by 3-16 to 4-8. We had an easy win over Keel/Listry by 3-16 to 1-5 on a wet evening. Castlegregory were our next opponents and after a really tough game we won by 2-8 to 1-9.

Mitchels came to Ballymac and provideded strong opposition, 2-14 to 2-13 the final score in our favour. Ballymac easily won their home semi-final against Desmonds by 4-16 to 1-8 and we now faced Castlegregory  in the final.

Under lights at the Mitchels complex was the venue for the final. Ballymac were the better team for most of this game leading 2-6 to 0-4 at the break. Castlegregory rallied in the second half but we held on to win by 3-9 to 2-10, captain Gary Horan collecting the winning trophy.

We would like to thank Chairman Tom Herlihy, Secretary Fionnan Fitzgerald, The Senior and U16 management for their help and co-operation , and also those who supported us throughout the year.
