Round 6 of the County League 18/06/2017

Finuge 1-12

Ballymac  2-11

It was a beautiful sunny and hot afternoon in Finuge for round 6 of the County league where Finuge played host to Ballymac and the heat of the day showed to take its toll in the first half of this game for both sides as it took 6 minutes for the first point of the match to be put on the score board from the Fingue number 13 and another 6 minutes for Ballymacs Daragh O’Reagan to equalize with just a point each in the opening 12 minutes.

The teams seemed to adjust to the conditions scoring 2 points each successively until at the 24th minute Ballymacs Daragh O’Reagan landed the ball at the back of the net to at last widen the gap to Finuge 0-03 and Ballymac 1-03.

Finuge did manage get two crucial well played points before the break by Cian Counihan scored another outstanding point to go into half time with a score Finuge 0-05 and Ballymac 1-04.

After the break Finuge made greats attempts to edge forward but an unfortunate missed point at the 5thminute gave the Ballymac side possession of the ball which led to Michael Herlihy racing to the goal to scored Ballymacs second goal of the match.

Finuge responded brilliantly with another point but Eanna Reidy pulled another point out of the hat from the 45 mark to widen the gap even more for Ballymac, and with 2 more successive points within one minute from Dan Shea and Vinny Horan it looked like a good run to the finish , Finuge worked really hard to try to get the winning points but the Ballymac defence denied them any chance of a win.

The final score showed how hard a race this was for both sides and it was a well fought victory for Ballymac .

Our U13’s played in this game and performed superbly in ideal weather conditions. We had great performances from Jamie Sugrue and Luke O’Connell in defence, Adam O’Keefe enjoyed his role in midfield and up front Andy Rodgers, James Kenny and Oisin Shanahan did the business on the scoring side.

James Bailly, Denis Brosnan, Darragh Sweeney, Adam Joy, Sean Horan, Cathal Culloty, Adam O’Keeffe, Adam Kelly and Tim Polman Daeman all represented the club on the night – well done boys.

Blue Team Division 4

Our U12 Blue team earned a well-deserved draw against john Mitchell’s last Monday evening. The effort and work rate displayed by the team could not be faulted. Michael Culloty and especially Luke Horgan were excellent in defence and worked hard to contain a good Mitchel’s forward line.

We were two points down at half time. In the second half Mitchel’s went seven points up with a few minutes left. It was then the team showed great heart and determination to snatch a draw. Second half goals from Niall Collins, Diarmaid Galvin and Sean Rice drove on the team.

Ballymac got a point in the last minute to draw it but were very unlucky in the end not to win the game. Well done lads on a great team display. Final score John Mitchels 3-10 to Ballymac 4-7. Ballymac U12 boys will take part in the Diarmuid O’ Brien memorial football blitz in Newmarket again this year.

We will be looking to make it three in a row when we look to defend the trophy we won the last two years. The blitz will take place on the 24th of June.

Gold Team Division 6

Monday 12th June

Ballymac Gold 5-10 Glenbeigh/Glencar 5-05 We started this game as we finished our last and came right out of the blocks and kicked 1-02 inside the first 5mins, The boys have been working hard on their block downs in training and it paid off as they were blocking down and putting their opponents off.

The score line flattered the visitors as they scored 4 goals in the last 10mins when we took our eye off the ball for a short period but all an all this was a fine performance from all 13 players. Matchday Squad:

Conor Martin, Cathal White, Mark o Connor, Evan o Brien, Tom Long, Jamie Burke, Jack Slattery, William o Donoghue, Micháel Savage, Alex Riordan, Shane Gilroy, Jamie Lynch and Conor Daly. Sunday 18th June 2017

An Gaeltacht 5-12 Ballymac Gold 2-06 What a setting this was on a beautiful sunny day back west. Unfortunately we came up against a far more physical team today, but the boys showed great heart and stuck at it until the end.

After the match the lads headed down to the nearby beach (Behind the stand) for a lovely dip in the water and then watched a bit of the Divsion 1 game between the locals and Miltown/Castlemaine. This game concluded the county league and it will stand to the boys next year when they move up to the blue team. We will not have a game for a few weeks now but will still train away at least 1 night a week.

Match day Squad: Conor Martin, Cathal White, Evan o Brien, Jamie Burke, Jack Slattery, William o Donoghue, Micháel Savage, Conor Daly, Mark o Connor, Jamie Lynch, Shane Gilroy, Ciaràn o Connell, Sam Slattery and Conal Savage.
