FAOI 16

Ballymac u16’s travelled to Ballyduff on Wednesday the 28th of June to take on the home side in the second round of county league. Both sides had been defeated in their first game so they were anxious to get points on the table.

Ballyduff had a blistering start and registered a goal and a point in the first five minutes. Adam Joy got Ballymac on the board with a point from play. This was cancelled out by the Ballyduff corner forward.

Ballymac levelled matters with two points from Dylan Dunne Moriarty, and a point a piece from Brian Cassidy and Daragh Broderick. Ballyduff went on to score another 1-07 before half time to leave their tally at 2-08.

Four more points from Daragh Broderick and three from Dylan Dunne Moriarty left Ballymac with a total of 12 points at half time. Unfortunately, the floodgates opened in the second half and Ballyduff registered the first eight scores before Daragh Broderick goaled for Ballymac.

Try as they might Ballymac could not stop the many Ballyduff attacks and the home side ran out comprehensive winners on a score line of Ballyduff 6-21 to Ballymac 1-14.

TEAM: Eoghan Kenny, Diarmuid Lynch, Aiden O Brien, Ciaran Brosnan, Daragh Leen, Liam O Brien, Jonathan Lowe, Dylan Dunne Moriarty, David Rogers, Daragh Lynch, Dara Broderick, Adam Joy, Sean Horan, Jack Tobin, Brian Cassidy Dean Lenihan, Dara Brosnan.

Ballymac u16’s travelled to Kilgarvan/Tousist last Sundayday the 09th of July to take on the home side in the third round of county league. In what turned out to be a close encounter the boys came just short on a score line of Kilgarvan/Tousist 4-05 to Ballymac 1-13.

FAOI 14

Ballymac A 1-11

Laune Rangers A 4-12

As the cliché says its goals that win games, but to the credit of the 16 players in attendance their efforts and spirit on the night was faultless.

Missing 10 players from our regular panel this was a great opportunity for others to shine with the younger players of Mossie Brennan, Gary Lynch, Mark O Connor and James Kenny all putting in solid performance against a much more physical opposition.

Similar to last week’s match Ballymac started brightly competing in all areas of the field and matching Laune Rangers with some excellent passages of play but it was the last 10 minutes of the first half where Rangers hit their only dominant patch of the game and scored two goals to leave us trailing by 1 06 to 3 08 at half time.

A few positional changes at half time changed the balance of the Ballymac team and found ourselves taking the game to Rangers but the physicality of their defence was difficult to penetrate for that badly needed goal which potentially would have swung the pendulum in our favour.

The Ballymac boys battled until the end with some outstanding defending in the full back line by Adam Walker, Luke O Connell, Mossie Brennan and the safe hands of Adam O Keeffe behind them.

Ballymac dominated the middle third of the pitch with James Baily, Andy Rogers, Darragh Sweeney, Adam Joy, Cathal Culloty, Denis Brosnan and Dylan Barry O Connell giving no inch to much taller opponents.

Whilst up front Sean Horan, Adam Sheehy, Gary Lynch, James Kenny, Mark O Connor all deserved greater return on the scoreboard for truly gutsy performance. Next up is an away game v Ardfert on Monday the 10th of July at 7pm.

The B team had a home game last Monday evening against Laune Rangers B in the Division 3 Central Region. They boys came up against a strong Rangers side on the evening and were defeated on a score line of 1-03 to 5-20. Next up for the U14 b boys is an away fixture against Austin Stacks on Monday the 10th of July at 7.00pm.

Ballymac u12 Girls

Cromane 3-3 Ballymac 1-4

Our final game for the season was the Div 1  3rd & 4th place play off away to Cromane Tuesday 4th July . Our Div 1 campaign had faltered of late , having won the first 3 games , a narrow defeat away to Southern Gaels followed , injury’s absences and loss of form lead to further defeats to Scartaglin & a bizarre loss to Fossa which scuppered our hopes of making the Div 1 final.

Again due to holidays & absences we lined out Tuesday evening short Orla O Connor & Geraldyn Cassidy , Ciara Palmer lined out but her shoulder problem surfaced again shortly before half time , Niamh Lynch who was having a stormer had to retire before half time also  due to illness . However despite all this with 5mins to go we led by a point mainly down to the tremendous efforts of goalie Kerry Hennesy , full back Alexia Weiss , corner backs Alice and Abby , half backs Roisin Rahilly , Anna Collins & Rachel Creedon . Ella Quirke & Jill Quirke ran themselves to a standstill at mid field and forwards Charlotte Geary , Kate Feeney , Kate Collins and subs Laura Sugrue & Roisin Raggett tried hard . The efforts made couldn’t be sustained and 2 goals by Cromane in the final minutes put paid to our hopes for a win .

Between the blue team and the gold team this season we played 24 games between NK League & Co League , won NK League Div 1 & Div 3 and competed for the very first time in the short history of the ladies club  in Div 1 of Co League and were by no means short of the standard required .

The coaches are very proud of this bunch of U12 girls , they have represented Ballymac in a great manner & are a pleasure to coach . There is tremendous potential in the group and a few of them will possibly play for Kerry at underage levels in the coming years . We take a well earned break for July now before kicking off in August again with some skill sessions .

Important that the girls keep practicing at home and attend the county development squads when they come up . Again well done girls and thanks to the parents for committing to both teams this year thus ensuring that we fielded teams in all scheduled games .

Team on the night for the record :

Kerry Hennesy , Alice Brosnan , Alexia Weiss, Abbey Leahy  , Niamh Lynch , Roisin Rahilly (0-1), Anna Collins , Ciara Palmer, Ella Quirke (0-1) Kate Feeney , Rachel Griffen (1-0) , Kate Collins, Jill Quirke (0-1), Charlotte Geary (0-1) Rachel Creedon . Subs : Laura Sugrue , Roisin Raggett , Allie Tarrant , Labhaoise Mansfield , Lauren O Connor , Sarah Mason
