Frank O’Rahilly, Ballymac Senior Team Manager picking a winning ticket in the Ballymac GAA Players Draw that took place in Ballymac GAA pitch last Thursday night.

Senior Team
Congratulations to our senior team who finished off phase one of the Junior Club Championship with a win over Brosna in Brosna on Sunday. For Junior Premier Championships, the top two teams in each Group are in the Quarter Finals. Thus Ballymac are into the draw for the quarter finals. In terms of qualifying for the Quarter Finals of the Club Championship there is no advantage in finishing first or second in the Group. The Quarter Final draw is open and venues are neutral. The two teams that played in the same Group cannot meet in the Quarter Final. The CCC met on Sunday night to set the fixtures for Round 3.

We thank everyone who supported our team over the past three weeks and we also thank all our members and supporters for their understanding in relation to the availability of tickets over the past three weeks.
Our senior team will now have a few weeks of a break as the County Championship will now take centre stage.

Boys U16

Under 16 County League
Phase 1 Round
Kerins O’Rahillys  V Ballymac
5 12                                  3 09

Our U16 s played Kerins O’ Rahilly’s in Strand Road on Thursday night in Round 3 of the county league .

Playing with a stiff breeze Ballymac were quick off the mark , with a beautiful strike on the left foot from Maurice O’Connell . Kerins O’Rahilly’s replied immediately with a point of their own . However in the next play , a long delivery from Donal Daly found Maurice O’Connell , who quickly side stepped his defender to unleash a powerful shot to the roof of the net to leave the score 1 01 to 0 01 .

Rahilly s replied immediately to score a goal off their own in a blistering opening ten minutes to the game .

However Rahilly’s slowly took control to score 2 further goals and 4 points to sail into a comfortable lead . However 2 points , one from Donal Daly & one from Maurice  O’Connell reduced the deficit to 5 points on a halftime scoreline of 3 05 to 1 03 to Kerins o Rahilly’s .

Rahilly’s were quick off the mark with some early points early in the second half , however 2 further goals from Donal Daly had us right back in the game .
James Kenny ,Eoin Creedon ,Gary lynch, Andy Rogers & Sean Rice really upping their performance at this stage . Rahilly s responded in style again & kicked 5 unanswered points to go further ahead . A fisted effort (point) by Sean Rice , was added by another Maurice  O’Connell point.
Two further goals from O’ Rahilly’s killed off the game as a contest , but Ballymac tried to the end with 4 further points from Donal Daly to leave the full time score 5 12 to 3 09 to O’ Rahilly’s Tommy palmer was solid in Goals.

Our defence of Luke & Aidan Horgan  James Kenny, Eoin Creedon Gary lynch & Diarmaid Galvin held firm and were not found wanting.

Sean Rice & Donal Daly worked so hard at midfield.

Up front , Niall Collins ,Dylan Roome ,Andy Rogers  , Maurice  O’Connell , Adam Wharton & Luke  O’Connell excelled . Subs introduced Michael Prendergast, Sam Mansfield,  Raymond Lowe & Skye Lynch really tried hard and have shown great improvement & enthusiasm.

This was a much improved performance from our boys and this shows the hard training done in the last couple of weeks has paid off .
We thank all the players for their continued effort and wish them the best of luck in phase 2 of the county league .
Thanks to all parents for their support on the night . Thanks to O Rahilly’s for  a fine sporting game .

U16 – County League Round 1.

Ballymac 2-04 V ISG 6-08

On a windy night down by the shores of the Atlantic at Templenoe, deep in the heart of Inbhear Sceine Gaels our U16 ladies took their first steps into Division 1 football. The U15 County Champions in their own backyard was always going to be a tough proposition for our ladies with only 5 actual 16’s in our team, but our ladies toughed it out and gave as good as they got.

Playing into the very strong wind in the first half had us down by 3-08 to 1-02 at half time. Our goal came from the right foot of Ella Quirke, a point from a free from Ciara Palmer and Keelin Enright from play. Lorna Daly had some good saves to help out our overworked defence, where Grainne Galvin was a colossus at full back with admirable help from Alyssa Leen O’Shea, Cathy Palmer, Abbey Leahy, Kate Collins and Kerry Hennessy. Our second half performance improved considerably with strong and forceful midfield play from Shonagh Griffin and Roisin Rahilly, who came up with a nice goal after a great run through the ISG defence.

With some extra points added by Kate and Anna Collins , we got hit by two sucker punches with a very early second half goal after ISG turned over the ball in their own penalty box and a goal with the last play of the game. This left the score at 6-08 to 2-04 at full time.

This was the ladies first actual game of the year, so that should stand them in good stead when we play Rathmore away in a Challenge next Wednesday night. We saw some very impressive performances from some of our  replacements Jill Quirke, Anna Collins and Laura Kelly. Team lined out as Lorna Daly, Kerry Hennessy, Grainne Galvin, Cathy Palmer, Emma Leen, Alyssa Leen O’Shea, Kate Collins, Shonagh Griffin, Ciara Palmer, Charlotte Geary, Ella Quirke, Emer Curran, Roisin Rahilly, Keelin Enright and Niamh Lynch. Finishers Abbey Leahy, Jill Quirke, Anna Collins, Laura Kelly, Aiobhinn Broderick, Roisin Raggett and Emma Daly.

U14 Girls
Our u14 Girls team took in Inbhear Sceine Gaels on Sunday evening last in Ballymac in Round 2 of Division One of the Trophyworld Co League.

The Ballymac Girls dominated this game from the first whistle and the result was never in doubt.

Laura Kelly Maire Culloty Aoife Sweeney and Rose Brosnan stood out in defence while special mention must go to forwards Laura Sugrue Emma Daly Rachel Creedon Sarah West Katie Hobbert and Katie Landers who were a constant thorn in the side of the ISG defence.

Final score Ballymac 7-15 ISG 1-7.

Next Sunday we make the journey to South Kerry to take on Southern Gaels in what is sure to be a tougher outing.

U12 – County League Round 1.

Ballymac 6-11  V Duagh 7-03

Bank holiday Monday, 3rd August, and our U12 girls hosted Duagh in beautiful sunshine for their first league match.

It was a game of two halves with our girls dominating and high scoring in the first half. With Sarah O Rourke opening the score sheet in the first 3 minutes with a point followed quickly with a sweet goal from Michelle O Connor.

Jamie Lee O Connor ruled midfield and demonstrated fitness and skill throughout the game.

Laura West was rock solid in defence making brave body blocks alongside Aibhe O’Connor proving her strengths in this position also.
Michelle O Connor and Abigail Geary showed a lovely passing partnership resulting in two more goals by Michelle and a goal and 2 points from Abigail. A duo to watch in the future with their speed and skill.

Sinead Scanlon once again showed improvement in her game alongside Katie Turner, Eabha Jones, Reanne Bailey and Molly O Connor. Olivia worked hard in goals.

Duagh battled  back strongly in the second half but Ballymac maintained their narrow lead with the final whistle 6-11 to 7-3 in our favour.

All girls showed improved and potential to strengthen their skills and game technique going forward.
