Under 9

Our u 9 s travelled to mallow complex on Saturday afternoon to play in the Munster GAA u 9 Blitz.

There were clubs participating from all over Munster, our boys were in a group with Douglas (2) and Cecilstown .

Our Boys gained valuable experience in playing at a top venue despite the weather been unkind.

All players got equal game time, and all players got to play in different positions throughout the pitch.

Our boys have gone from strength to strength and will look forward with confidence to 2023.

Thanks to all parents who travelled to mallow to support the players.

Thanks to organiser Eoin Breathnach (Waterford) for inviting us to the Blitz.

Thanks to Maurice o Connell for travelling to mallow and refereeing our games.

We finish off the year with our final training session on October 23 rd.

Under 13s

U13 Boys ~ our boys met Cordal for the Castleisland district league final replay in Brosna on Sunday evening. Despite a yellow weather warning our lads turned out in force. Cordal started the brightest and built up a 5-point lead.

The strong cross wind caused us to notch up many wides before finally getting on the Score board. At half time we were trailing 1:05 to 0:02 despite playing with the wind. Ballymac put in a gallant effort in the second half But Cordal we’re able to maintain their lead and despite some serious pressure by our lads ran out winners on a score line of 3.09 to 2.05.

It was a tough game but we can hold our heads high with our performances over the 2 games. The future is bright for this group of fine young footballers.

Ballymac Abu

Under 15s

Under 15 Castleisland District A Final.

In tough conditions Ballymac came out the victors on a score line of 2-09 to 1-02 in Cordal on Sunday morning last.

With underfoot conditions and the ball very slippery mistakes were unavoidable throughout, but our boys had that extra bit of strength around the pitch to mind and gain possession on a more consistent basis.

Currow were first off, the mark playing with a strong wind while we found it hard to breakdown their   defensive approach to the game. Patience was the name of the game.

We got our first score from the boot of Jack Joy from a free followed by an excellent score on the outside of the boot from Michael Quirke. Jack Joy chipped in again with another free before the excellent Padraig Reidy kicked a fine score after a good team move to leave the halftime score 00-4 to 0-01.

With the wind and rain in full flow the second half started and it was Currow who turned us over while we were in attacking mode, moved the ball through the hands to work an excellent goal from their full forward and draw the game level.

Game on then and up stepped Mairtin Mc Kivergan who had switched to full forward for the second half with a great point to get our noses back in front. With Stephen Turner and Jack Joy getting on top around midfield, Jack with another free put us two ahead and again Mairtin found his range to put us three ahead.

After a good save from the Currow goalkeeper from the industrious Ciaran O Connell the resultant 45 from Jack Joy, which dropped short was punched to the net by Mairtin to put us six ahead and make the last ten minutes a formality if we controlled midfield which we did.

Luke Griffin got an excellent score after a great ball in by Eoghan Joy followed by another goal from the outstanding Mairtin Mc Kivergan. Jack Joy kicked the final score to finish off the contest on a score line of 2-09 to 1-02. Excellent in defence for us were Eoin Moriarty, Eoghan Joy and Matthew Rodgers while our midfield-controlled matters for most of the hour. Up front Mairtin and Jack Joy led the way ably assisted by Ciaran O Connell and Padraig Reidy.

Well done to all the team and subs who put in great hours work and contribute to a great win. Richard Cotter chairman of the Castleisland District Board presented the trophy to joint captains Ciaran O Connell and Micheal O Connor. Thanks to Currow for a fine sporting game and the referee on the day.
