Ballymac 1-05 V Killarney Legion 1-14
A bright, crisp St Patrick’s day ensured a good crowd in Ballymac on Friday to watch the home side welcome Killarney Legion to the first County League game of the season. Killarney Legion’s forwards, led by James O’Donoghue were lethal in getting the scores and as the game progressed Ballymac’s defence settled and came into the game.
The luck was not with Ballymac who had three goal chances including Vinnie Horan and Darragh Regan’s shots hitting the crossbar.
Prior to the match, a minute’s silence was observed for Mossie Crowe who passed away this week. Mossie played with the club and was a great supporter of our teams and our club down through the years.
Ballymac with two League starters in Niall Collins and Diarmuid Galvin as well as Christy Leen making his start in goals after converting from an outfield player this year.
Favourites Killarney Legion had a blistering start to the game as they raced to a 0-5 to 0-0 lead by the first fifteen minutes. Ballymac worked hard to haul them back for the remainder of the game.
From the second quarter, on our backs came well into the game and did well in suppressing the endless assaults from the Killarney forwards. With three minutes to Half Time, Legion scored a goal to add to their 11 points.

Our lads put their heads down and worked hard Legion scored one point and then Ballymac got a point, from Michael Herlihy.
Shortly afterward Ballymac was awarded a penalty after a foot block in the square and Aidan Breen made no mistake and rattled the back of the net. Aidan Breen scored from a free on Donal Daly and the game was 1-03 to 1-12 going into the last quarter.
The Legion forwards despite James O’Donoghue going off at half time were once again on the attack going into the last fifteen minutes.
Aidan Breen for Ballymac, the colossus that he is, lead by example and kept pushing forward and making inroads into the opposition’s back line. Despite losing Donal Daly to a red card in the last 13 minutes Ballymac worked hard and never gave up.
Aidan Breen set up a point-taking well by Daire Keane. Darragh Regan had two shots hit the crossbar and bounce back out. Legion scored two more points before Michéal Reidy got our last point.
Final Score: Ballymac 1-05 to Killarney Legion 1-14.
We send our best wishes for a speedy recovery to our players who suffered injuries in our last challenge game: Daniel O’Shea and Cian Godley.
We thank everyone for their support and for supporting our lotto sellers who gave St Patricks Day a very festive look. If there was one disappointment in the day – was that there was no Killarney Legion team on the team sheet.
It would have been nice to have had it, especially for all the kids who look upon their County panelists and former players as heroes.

Minor County League Div 2A– Round 3 Ballymacelligott v Kilcummin–

Kilcummin 1-14
Our Minor team played their third game in the county league Division 2A against Kilcummin in atrocious conditions on Wednesday evening, March 15th.
Ballymac started this game on the front foot and had a penalty converted by Jack Slattery in the second minute and followed two minutes later by another goal from Luke Silles and after 10 minutes Ballymac led Kilcummin 02-00 to 0-02.
Luke Silles got his second goal of the game in the 12th minutes and for the rest of the first half points were traded and at half time Ballymac went into the dressing room with a five point lead 03-02 to 00-06.
Ballymac had to withstand constant pressure from Kilcummin throughout the second half. Kilcummin scoring 1-03 without reply inside the first eight minutes of the second half. Ballymac responded with courage following this setback and got a crucial goal from Shane Gilroy in the 41st minute.
The rest of the game was end to end and strongly contested throughout with Kilcummin just running out single point winners on a scoreline of Ballymac 04-04 Kilcummin 1-14.
Great credit has to given to our lads who fought and battled throughout the sixty plus minutes and the effort shown only bodes well for the rest of the season.
Well done to our boys for the effort shown on the day.

Ladies news
Our under 16 ladies Anna Collins and Jamie Lee O’Connor were playing with the Kerry Under 16s today away to Waterford
They came away with the win the score was Kerry 3-11 to Waterford 2-09

Health & Wellbeing update
This week we launch our tree planting initiative at our community walking path at the training field to coincide with National Tree Week which runs from March 19th to 26th. We will start planting on Tuesday 21st at 6pm and Saturday 25th March at 11am.
Anyone interested in joining this initiative, please contact Tina 0871811249. All children and adults who love to garden, come join us. This will be a fun community event.

Sympathy
Ballymac GAA Club would like to extend their sympathy to the family of Moss Crowe on his recent passing.
Moss was a past player with the Club and when his playing career finished, he regularly attended games involving Ballymac.
Club members formed a guard of honour for him at Clogher Church on Monday morning at his funeral Mass.
His loss will be greatly felt by his wife Vera and the extended Crowe and Griffin families.
May he rest in peace.
