Credit Union Senior League 2023: Division 1

Kerins O’Rahilly’s 2-12
Ballymacelligott 1-12

At the end it was a goal scored in the 10th minute of the first half  that separated the teams tonight in Strand Road. Ballymac had plenty scoring chances that did not materialise ,right through the game,  and conceded too many frees that gave easy scoring opportunities to the Strand Road side.

Ballymac playing with a strong breeze had four points on the score board from Donal Daly, Aidan Breen, Niall Collins and again Aidan Breen when Sean Walsh scored a goal-Rahilly’s, first score of the game after ten minutes of play.   Two more points from the home side left the score 1-2 to 0-4 after fifteen minutes.

The Strand Road boys scored another five points in the next quarter to Ballymac’s  three from Aidan Breen (free), Donal Daly and Brian Lonergan.

Half Time score:
Kerins O’Rahilly’s: 1-7(10)
Ballymacelligott: 0-7(7)

Ballymac struggled in the first few minutes of the second half.  Rahilly’s scored a point, our goalkeeper Christy Leen made his second vial save that kept us in the game.

Two more points from Rahilly’s increased their lead before Niall Collins and Aidan Breen scored a point each. . Ballymac were down to fourteen men (Daire Keane got a black card eight minutes into the half ) and 1-11 to 0-9 down with fifteen minutes left.

The Ballymac team just kept working and really battled hard in this last quarter.  Niall Collins scored a fine goal leaving just two points between the teams.

In a matter of seconds Rahilly’s had scored a goal and a point. Donal Daly scored two points and another from Cathal Dunne. There was  last minute goal chances at both ends.

It was great to have Daniel O’Shea back in great form after injury and to see Brian Lonergan and Tadhg Brick making good contributions to the game.

Darragh Sweeney  and Niall Collins were superb as was Cathal Dunne who did a fine job in marking David Moran. Speedy recoveries to our players with injuries: Vinnie Horan, Cian Counihan and Aidan Breen .
