Ballymacelligott 3-13

Ballymac Mentors and substitutes closely watching the game V Austin Stacks on Sunday night in Connolly Park

The heart-warming lesson from this match came eight minutes into the first half when Ballymac rallied and scored a point when Stacks had gone two points up.

The Ballymac lads having had two defeats in the County League could have lost confidence, however their resilience showed and they scored three more scores and never lost this lead until the final whistle.

It was a beautiful breezy evening in Connolly Park and there was a great support for both teams on this Easter Saturday evening. Aidan Breen opened the scoring with a point. A point from Michael O’Callaghan and two from Shane O’Callaghan gave Stacks a two-point lead.

Ballymac united in their purpose scored three points one a free from Aidan Breen, one from Daire Keane and a free converted from Aidan Breen on a foul on Niall Collins. The score after fifteen minutes was 0-3 to 0-6 to Ballymac.

Stacks scored a point , a  point each from Aidan Breen  and Niall Collins  followed by a goal from  Daire Keane increased the lead for our lads. Three more points from Stacks and one from Ballymac left the half time score 0-7 to 1-9.

After the break Niall Collins continued to rattle the Stacks back line with his perceptive runs and was working well with his fellow forwards. Points from Donal Daly and Vinny Horan and two from Stacks left the goal between them. Niall Collins game was over after a foul.

A point from Michael Herlihy followed by two goals from Aidan Breen & Vinnie Horan ended the game as a contest. Donal Daly scored Ballymac’s last point. In the last five minutes the home team scored three points and got a goal from a penalty well into added time.

This was a good result for Ballymac with a man of the match performance from Dylan Dunne Moriarty well supported by his fellow backs.

Christy Leen did well in goals and his handling and distribution added to the flow of the game.  Once again great performances from by the forwards who worked well as a unit ensured Ballymac got that well deserved two points.

U16 Girls Begin their County League Campaign.
Our u16 Ladies team began their Co League campaign with a trip to Ballybunion on Wednesday evening last.
We travelled with a depleted squad due to injuries and player unavailability.

The first have was evenly matched possession wise, however the home side made better use of that possession to lead at half time on a 1-5 to 0-2 scoreline.

Our Girls played their best football in the first 20 minutes of the second half and had cut the deficit to a single point, however the introduction of fresh legs into the Beale side saw them regain the iniatitive which saw them add three unanswered points to leave the final score Beale 1-10 Ballymac 1-6.

Full credit to the Ballymac Girls who gave it their all and despite the loss can look forward to the remaining games with confidence following this display.

U15 Boys
Blue Team
Our u15 Blue team faced a huge task in our opening Div 1B Co League fixture. An away fixture, to the amalgamated combination of Keel and Listry was never going to be easy.
Our 1st attack yielded a good goal, however, scores by us in 1st half were scarce and laborious.

Half time score
Ballymac  1-1 Keel/Listry 2-12

The 2nd half showed a massive change in our style of play and determination.  Attack after attack, score after score, we reeled them in. For the 1st 15 mins we had them in serious trouble! However, Keel/Listry are a very good team,  and they eventually regained control and ran out convincing and deserving winners, on a final scoreline of  Ballymac1-9 Keel/Listry 3-18.

Though well beaten on the night, our boys showed great attitude and potential. We battled away and never gave in.
We will improve.

Gold Team:
Ballymac u15 Gold team played Ardfert on Easter Sunday morning  on a good pitch in dry, but blustery conditions.
We chose to play against the wind in the 1st half.
Good defending and midfield play ensured our forwards got a good supply of ball. They converted many of these into scores, and the half time score was Ballymac  3-7   Ardfert  1-1

2nd half:
With the wind behind us, we drove on with some quality defending and scores on display.
