Ballymacelligott are Tralee/St Brendan’s Div 2 League Champions 2023

Tralee/St Brendan’s Senior League Final

Division 2

Ballymac 4-14 Churchill 0-11

Venue: Ballymac Date: 21st July 2023

Ballymac was the venue for the Tralee/St. Brendan’s Division 2 League Final on Friday last 21st July

Ballymac ran out winners on a scoreline of 4-14 to 0-11.

Churchill who played without many regulars were first to score with a point from a free. Shortly after they added another point from play.

After a shaky start Ballymac settled and the scores started to come.  A goal and a point from Niall Collins, points from Micheal Reidy and Daire Keane and a goal from captain Vinny Horan left the score after 15 minutes at Ballymac 2-3 to Churchill 0-3.

The remainder of the first half belonged to Ballymac.  1-1 from Niall Collins, a goal from Daire Keane and 3 points from Vinny Horan left the score at half-time

Ballymac 4-7 Churchill 0 -4

The second half was a more even affair with both sides scoring 7 points apiece. Ballymac ran their bench and ended up comprehensive winners on a scoreline of 4-14 to 011.

TEAM:  Christy Leen, Mike Sweeney, Daniel O Shea, Diarmaid Galvin, Joshua O ‘Keeffe, Darragh Sweeney, Cian Counihan, Aidan Breen, Micheal Reidy, Niall Collins, Daire Keane, Adam Sheehy, Donal Daly, Vinny Horan, Michael Herlihy.

Subs Used:  Dara Broderick, Tadgh Brick, Ciaran Brosnan, Sean Rice, Dara Regan.

Senior Ladies
Cromane were the visitors on Monday evening last for the latest round of Division Two of the Donal Curtin Cup.

This was an 11 a side game due to the Mid Kerry side being tight on numbers.

This leant itself to a very open game where despite the damp conditions both sides played some excellent football.

Ballymac had more of the first half possession and will have been disappointed going in at half time down a point on a 2-2 to 1-4 scoreline, our inability to take scoring chances costing us.

Goalkeeper Ellie Sugrue made some vital saves in the half from dangerous Cromane attacks while defenders Una Morrissey, Ciara Kerins, Rachel Griffin and Anna Collins fresh from her All-Ireland u16 win with Kerry the previous day had to be on top of their game as well.

Laura Sugrue took her goal well while the Creedon sisters Eve and Rachel were proving a handful for the away sides defence.

The first quarter of the second half saw exchanges close again, however Ballymac’s option of a full quota of subs saw the fresh legs have an impact, especially the introduction of Kate O’ Connor with her contribution of a goal and a point seeing Ballymac run out deserved winners on a 2-10 to 3-4 scoreline.

Scorers Laura Sugrue 1-1, Kate O’Connor 1-1, Eve Creedon 0-3, Sarah Scanlon 0-2, Rachel Creedon 0-2, Kate Collins 0-1.

On Monday(24th) evening at 7.30pm we have our third home game in a row when we welcome ISG for another Donal Curtin Cup game, victory here should help us qualify for the semifinal of this competition so all support for the team would be greatly appreciated.

U13 Boys

On Saturday our u13 boys took part in the Keel/ Listry u13 blitz. The blitz was split into two groups with group 1 playing in Keel and group 2 playing in Listry. Our first game was a win over Fossa which led us to our second game against a very strong Keel/Listry team, unfortunately we were defeated by this team who went on to win the division 1 final against Dr Crokes. This meant that we ended up in the division 2 final against Ballyduff.

After well-earned refreshments, we headed to Keel, where the finals were taking place. The game itself was played in a very sporting manor with great football played by both teams, eventually ending in well-earned win by Ballymac. Harvey Leen and Jack Lynch, our joint captains on the day, accepted the plaque on behalf of a delighted Ballymac team. Thanks again to Keel and Listry clubs for hosting a brilliant day.
