Coaches Workshop For Strength And Conditioning For Female Athletes

KERRY Recreation and Sports Partnership are hosting ‘Strength and Conditioning considerations for the Female Teenage Athlete’ as part of the Women in Sport Series.

The inaugural event was held in March which focused on retaining teenage girls in sport and many of the attendees requested a follow on workshop in this area.

The event, held in collaboration with the Health & Leisure Department at MTU, will take place on Friday 17th November from 6.30pm – 9pm at Kerry Sports Academy, MTU, Tralee.

The event is aimed at sports coaches, volunteers, physical activity leaders, instructors and teachers of female teenage athletes.

Ciara Griffin, former Ireland Rugby Captain, will once again MC and Fionn Fitzgerald, MTU Lecturer and Youth Athletic Development Coach will present research and thoughts on considerations for youth strength and conditioning, with a focus on growth and maturation. Niamh O Sullivan, Physical Therapist, International Athlete and International Athletics coach will concentrate on considerations we need to take as coaches when working with teenage girls.

Following the theory, participants will get the opportunity to participate in 3 short practical sessions incorporating functional strength fundamentals, dynamic warm ups and lower leg strength-based approaches. The event will culminate in a panel discussion, providing participants with the opportunity to ask questions and provide observations from their own sports.

Light refreshments will be provided on the night and there will be loads of opportunities for networking.
