Residents of Fenit and the wider community came together on Friday evening in solidarity to share their sadness with the Murphy family in Tullamore following the death of their beautiful daughter Ashling.

It was a very well attended, dignified and solemn tribute.  Local girls who had gone to university with Ashling travelled to attend the event.

The art work on display at the event was completed by Diarmuid Browne, a first class student from Fenit National School, to represent the first class pupils who Ashling taught in a career she loved.

Symbols of what the community knew of Ashling’s life were centre of the vigil — a musical instrument representing her love of Irish music and cultural traditions,  her commitment to young children was reflected by the art work at the vigil.

The organisers also expressed their deepest sympathy to Ashling’s family and reminded people to reach out to each other and national services if they are affected by Ashling’s sad passing.

A moment of silence took place and local musicians played music as a dedication to Ashling.
