Gardaí Ask Kerry Public To Share Stories And Memorabilia For Centenary Celebrations

AN Garda Síochána is asking the public in Kerry to share with them any stories, material or memorabilia as they prepare mark the 100th Anniversary of the foundation of the force.

To mark this significant occasion, An Garda Síochána in Kerry are planning a number of events to be held across the Kerry Garda Division during the year.

A full events schedule will be announced shortly. Included in this will be a significant ceremonial event to be held at Listowel Garda Station later in the year, as Listowel Station is the site of the first Civic Guard (An Garda Síochána) Station, which was established in Kerry in 1922.

The 100 year history of An Garda Síochána in Kerry is remarkable with acts of bravery and heroism while protecting and serving the people of Kerry.

The contribution by An Garda Síochána to communities across the county not just in their role as Gardaí but also in sport, music, culture, community life, charity work, volunteering and many other areas has been far-reaching.

To mark the centenary year, they are looking for members of the public to share with them any stories, material or memorabilia that they may have including;

• Details of relatives who may have served as Gardaí since 1922 in Co. Kerry
• Stories of heroism or bravery
• Interesting facts
• Examples of exceptional community work
• Examples of contribution to sport, music, arts and culture
• Books or documents or newspaper articles
• Photographs
• Old Uniforms
