GARDAI are asking people to immediately report any suspicious vehicles going up and down bóthríns or in other remote areas, rather than waiting until later to contact them.

At the weekend there was a report of suspicious vehicles in the Chute Hall area outside Tralee, but they were reported an hour after they were there, so they were gone from the area when gardaí arrived.

While there was no criminal activity reported in the area, the cars were slowing down with the occupants looking over garden walls and a few residents became anxious and contacted gardaí.

It is important that they are reported immediately so that gardaí can take action. They also recommend noting the registration of suspicious vehicles and passing them on to gardaí.

The advice comes after another incident in the Killarney area. On St Patricks Day at 4pm in the Aghadoe area, a neighbour noticed two men enter in a nearby house. When another neighbour asked what they were doing, the men said they were looking for dogs. They then ran off and were picked up in what was reported as a light grey coloured Ford Focus or Opel, driven by a female with blonde hair.

One of the men was 6′ 1″ with black hair of solid build wearing jeans with black gloves in the pocket. The second man was the same height, with blonde hair and of stocky build with black jeans and a dark top. There was also silver 05-D registered Toyota Avensis in the area and gardaí believe this is  connected with the incident.

The gardai are also advising people to lock their sheds and outhouses, after garden tools were used to break into properties in Killarney at the weekend.

In an incident at a house on Woodlawn Road around 3pm last Saturday, a woman heard her daughter screaming downstairs and heard two male voices in the kitchen.

The men then fled the house empty-handed in the direction of Woodlawn Road towards Ballycasheen. They were white, English-speaking males, dressed in black and wearing gloves. They used  a hammer, axe and shears, taken from the garden shed, to access the property.

Then in Muckross Grove, between 2pm on Saturday, March 19 to 5pm on Sunday March 20, a vacant house was broken into using tools taken from the garden shed on the property. They gained access via a window and cash and jewellery was taken

If anyone has any information on the above incidents, contact Killarney Garda Station on 064-6671160.
