Moyvane Tournament, Division4. 27-11-2016

Michelle Corridan (Moyvane) & Kevin O’Mahony (Ballyheigue)on their way to winning the Division 4 Badminton Tournament at the Moyvane Annual Tournament held on Sunday 27 November.

THE village of Moyvane was the focal point for the Badminton fraternity of Kerry on Sunday last where the local club hosted their annual Newtownsandes Co-Op sponsored Badminton tournaments and what a huge representation of players, no less than 120 willing players, from all corners of the Kingdom gathered in the local Community Centre to display their talents to what was a capacity packed hall.

Indeed that large appreciative audience certainly got value for money the full way through which culminated with each of the four mixed doubles finals having to go to the third and final set for decision and how close most of those final 12 sets proved to be

Results as follows;
Div 5 mixed final for the Mike Corridan Shield; Karen Lawlor (Listowel) and Oliver Carmody (Moyvane) defeated Gerdi Mulvihill (Moyvane) and Brendan Carroll (Causeway)21-18; 17-21; 21-16.

Ladies Plate Final; Axine Leahy (Ballyheigue) and Eibhlis Brosnan (Kingdom, Castleisland) defeated Sally Ann Leahy (Causeway) and Amina Bhayat (Listowel) 30-16

Mens Plate Final; Ivan Lucid (Causeway) and Liam Corridan (Moyvane) defeated Cathal O’Regan (Ballyheigue) and Padraig Hanrahan (Moyvane) 30-23

Div. 4 mixed final for the Eileen and Tom Roche Trophy; Michelle Corridan (Moyvane) and Kevin O’Mahony (Ballyheigue) defeated Paula O’Sullivan (Ballyheigue) and Paul Hayes (Listowel) 21-17; 18-21; 21-19

Ladies div 4 plate final; Eleanor Sheehan (Moyvane) and Sarah Leahy (Ballyheigue) defeated Marie O’Connor (Killarney and Susan O’Connor (Moyvane) 30-28.

Mens div 4 Plate final; Liam O’Connor (Moyvane) and Tom Bradley (Kingdom) defeated Maurice Lawlor (Ballyheigue) and Stephen Delaney (Listowel) 30-28

Div 3 Eileen Brosnan Memorial Shield; Amanda Carmody (Moyvane) and Kieran Crehan (Killarney ) defeated Jeab Worknan (Killarney) and Tom Clear (Kingdom) 25/27, 21/17, 21/12.

Div 3 Plate Winners Men Timmy Hanrahan (Moyvane) and Brendan McGovern (Annascaul) defeated Jamie Elliott (Moyvane) and Patrick Corridan (Ballyheigue)30/26

Ladies div 3 plate Samira Hayes ( Killarney) and Krystle Crowley (Moyvane) defeated Suzanne Smith (Killarney) and Michelle Beazley Kingdom 30/23

Div 2 Mail Rd Cross Garden Centre Trophy; Winners Ruth Concannon (Kingdom) and James Leane (Listowel) defeated Saorcha Fitzgerald (Moyvane) and Aidan McCarthy (Kingdom)20/21, 21/12, 21/9.

Tournament Sunday.
The Killarney Sports Centre will be the Mecca for all Kerry Badminton followers on Sunday next which is named Tournament Sunday, due to the fact that players from all 5 divisions will compete in the 4 tournaments which will be played on the day, namely the Paddy Drummond Cup for divisions 1& 2 combined; the Waterstone Cup for division 3 and a Mixed doubles Shield for both the division 4 and division 5 grades. Both the division 4 and 5 competitions will commence proceedings at 2 pm; division 3 at 3.30 pm and div.1&2 at 4 pm

As these events normally attract a large entry all players are requested to be on call for the appointed time for each competition.
