THE Kerry Choral Union, Adult and Junior Choirs, will sing at a celebration concert in Ardfert Cathedral which will include a medley of a rock band’s numbers.

It will be the finale of the Medieval Festival to be held in the village on June 7 at 7.30pm, with the choir – some 80 singers in all –  performing in the open air nave of the cathedral.

Musical Director Sharon Reidy has planned a lively programme including some lovely choral pieces and also a medley of Queen numbers.

Accompanist will be Aine Hurley. If the weather forecast is poor the concert will move to St Brendan’s Parish church nearby.

Two years ago the Office of Public Works granted Ardfert Development Association permission for the Cathedral to be used for an open air mass ceremony, conducted by Bishop Bill Murphy and Kerry Church of Ireland Bishop Rt Rev. Trevor Williams. It was the first mass to be held there in 500 years.

The committee of the Ardfert Development Association are now keen to host annual events in the cathedral grounds.
