IT’S an exciting month for all involved in Na Gaeil GAA Club with the senior team involved in the Munster Junior Club Championship and a special fundraiser coming up.

On Saturday, November 30, Na Gaeil GAA Club are holding an all sponsored Race Night to finance its increasingly expanding club both on and off the field of play.

The proceeds will go towards preparing and kitting out their senior football team that won for the first time the Kerry Premier Junior Football Championship last May.

They now play the Cork champions Kilshannig in the Munster Quarter Final in Mallow GAA Grounds on Saturday November 16th which will be a new but welcome expense.

Business people and companies out there might like to sponsor a race for €150, place a full page advertisement in the Race Night Booklet for €100 or a half page advertisement for €60.

They are asking their supporters, players and parents to purchase a horse for €40 from any member of the Race Committee or from the Club Bar over the coming weeks.

There will be a prize on the night for the best dressed lady and gent. There will also be Tote facilities. Enquiries to Race Committee Chairperson Donal Lucey at 0872577729.

The club caters for all teams, over 500 boys and girls from under 6 to senior level and this requires a lot of funding. The club has enjoyed great success with its players having played on Kerry teams, male and female, at all levels over the past number of years.

This year Jack Barry and Diarmuid O’Connor played with Kerry in the All Ireland Senior Final in Croke Park. Devon Burns and Tomás O hAiniféin played in the minor semi final at the same venue with Oisín Maunsell, Enda O’Connor and Jack Sheehan being members of the panel.

Devon Burns was selected on the Eirgrid Team of the Year for his outstanding performances between the posts for the Kerry Minors. Laura Fitzgerald and Megan O’Connor played with the Kerry Senior Ladies, Mary O’Connell with the Kerry Minors and Sarah Barrett with the Kerry U16 team.

Monies raised on the night will also go towards catering for all cultural events in the club including Scór na bPáistí, Scór na nÓg and Scór Sinsir, maintaining and upgrading their facilities both indoors and outdoors including a major drainage project on the field which will be starting shortly.
