Na GaeilNA GAEIL SENIOR

Na Gaeil faced St Pats in the semi-final of the Brendan’s Championship.

Played in Killeen in ideal weather conditions it  was the home side who registered the first score, but it was to be St Pats who enjoy the best of the exchanges in the opening fifteen minutes building up a lead of 01-03 to 00-02. The visitors failed to capitalise on their good start and were reeled in by a determined Na Gaeil side intent on maintaining their recent run of good luck.

Na Gaeil went into the break with a three point advantage on a score line of 00-10 to 01-04.Na Gaeil started the second half superbly extending their lead with fine scores from Darren Burns, scoring three points in quick succession from difficult angles.

Despite St Pats missing a late penalty Na Gaeil had the game pretty much rapped up with the likes of Kieran Donovan and Ross Culloty being superb trough out. Na Gaeil won out on a score line of 00-21 to St Pats 01-11.

NA GAEIL LADIES V LISTOWEL U14 Div 1Final: After our very busy week, we played Listowel in the North Kerry Final in Ballyduff on Wednesday evening.

We were missing Sibeal and Erika through injury, wishing them a speedy recovery. This was going to be a close game with Listowel being a strong physical side with a lot of pace through their team.

Abi started in goals for us, giving us some good kickouts. We were a bit nervous at the start, and took us a bit of time to adjust to their physical approach, which helped Listowel to a very good start.

They got fast ball up to their forwards, and got some very early scores. Ria, Grainne and Maura were being pulled all over the field from their full back positions, which enabled Listowel to take advantage of the space.

Ciara, Muireann and Dearbhla had also to chase their players, but they fought for every ball. Mary and Meagan were in midfield and did some fierce running from box to box with Jadyn, Kay and Clodagh having to come back and help our defence.

Brid, Roisin and Aimee could not get within a breath away from their markers. Mary got us a point  with Jadyn grabbing another 2 points just before the end of the first half.

We were down 2.05 to 0.03 points at half time, despite the score line, we had hit the cross bar and posts and were unlucky to down by 8 points.

We talked at half time and came out in the second half a more positive attacking attitude and took the game to Listowel.

We made a couple of changes, bringing on Caragh, Sophie and bringing Abi out of goals. Abi won a high ball in near the box, took on 2 players and blasted it into the back of the net.

The comeback was on. Jadyn made another run , interchanging passes with Meagan and Mary, and scored another great goal. Our forwards were making so many runs, we had Listowel at sixes and sevens.

Abi scored another point with Jadyn following up with one as well.Jadyn got us another point, with Muireann making a great run from defence and scoring a great point.

Listowel scored another couple of points and were still ahead by 5 points when Kay made another great run into the box and was pulled down and won us a penalty, Jadyn struck it lovely but hit crossbar and over for a point. 4 points down, 6 mins to go. From the resulting kick out, Meagan won the ball, feed it to Jadyn and she scored another point.

Listowel got  the ball out fast and found one of their players on the 40 with only keeper to beat,Ciara came out to meet the ball and player and got a slight touch on the ball, but it was on its way into the net except for Muireann who made a sprint from the halfway line, passed her keeper and scooped the ball off the line.

Muireann then got the ball to Kay, who in turn found Jadyn, who made another fantastic run and scored a goal with a scorcher of a shot. 3 points up with 3 mins to go. We fought to the end not letting any Listowel player room or space to try and score.

We won the game on a scoreline of 3-08 to 2-08. Our defenders Dearbhla, Muireann, Maura, Ria, Ciara and Grainne were exceptional with their robust defending, not letting any players past.

Mary and Meagan never stopped running and working throughout the whole game and were shattered after it. And our movement from our forwards Brid, Roisin, Caragh, Sophie, Abi, Kay , Aimee and the work rate from Jadyn was exceptional.

We won by 3 points in the end with probably the best display of attacking football, hard work and sheer desire we have seen this year.

All parents should be proud of all the players. Thanks to Sean and staff for helping the girls celebrate after the game and thanks to the parents and supporters who came to the game. It was the positive support from the stands that also helped the girls to keep fighting till the end.
