Orlagh and AP McCoy

Orlagh Winters meets jockey legend AP McCoy at Leopardstown last week.

THIS time of year is a particular favourite of mine as there is, as my mother would say, “a great stretch in the evening”.

The temperature may not be rising in any significant way, but there is sign of new life in the trees and flowers.

This is also true for the clothes that are now in our favourite shops. On Sunday last I was lucky enough to be in Leopardstown to witness the great win by AP McCoy in the Hennessy Gold Cup.

The win was extra special as he had just announced his retirement the day before after an incredible career and having made records that will probably not be beaten in our lifetime.

It was a perfect Spring day and there were a certain unexplainable feelgood feeling in the air.

Attendance figures were up and lots had come to say farewell to the man who brought them lots of joy over the years and hopefully brought them a few winners too.

In December I told you of a fashion blogger who is well worth a follow called Helen Quealy-Murphy whose blog is called Daily Diva Diary.

Helen was chosen as best dressed on the day and looked über elegant in a mixture of vintage and high street and of course crowned with a Carol Kennelly headpiece.

Carol’s pieces were very evident on the day and I wore one myself. Chanelle McCoy graced the front page of most papers and was on every TV station wearing one of Carol’s masterpieces, which is really great publicity for our local lady.

As many of you know Kerry Fashion Week takes place next month and Carol will be showcasing her new collection. Daily Diva Diary is also nominated in the Irish Fashion Blog of the Year.

Most of you will have a wedding or an occasion to buy something new this year and there really is no better place to see this year’s style than in a fashion show.

The Pavilion in Ballygarry House Hotel will host the KFW fashion show on Tuesday March 3rd at 7pm.

This is an exclusive show featuring new collections from Kerry’s top boutiques. Tickets are available for €45 at www.kerryfashionweek.com

My suggestion is to gather the girls and have a night out looking at the best that Kerry has to offer.

It certainly will help you choose that killer outfit you need for this season and there is always a sense of feel-good when you support local.

On Sunday I spoke with quite a few people involved in the fashion industry and what was wonderful was the way they spoke of KFW.

Many larger towns and cities have tried to run fashion weeks but they have not succeeded. This is the seventh year and it promises to be the best yet placing Kerry once again as a fashion front- runner.

Get your tickets fast as numbers are limited.

Until next week,

Stay stylish!

Orlagh xx
